Legitimately curious what adjustments are being made?
As someone who works in a school district in mississippi (not a teacher) i can tell you EXACTLY what it is... and its whats wrong with education today. From the time they step in a classroom, they are being taught how to pass these test. The whole classroom experience now is test prep. Whats on the test, pract test, etc. It puts alota stress on students, as well as teachers. Because why? FUNDING!!!!!! ALL ABOUT THE MONEY. The days of regular curriculum are long gone. Its all about instruction to how these test work and how to pass them. So teachers can keep their jobs, and the school get their funding. Just because scores are high, dont mean kids are actually learning shite

You start with this and proceed to post absolutely nothing about the adjustments made to the scoring.

From the Thread on twitter
Demographically adjusted means
quote:
adjusts for gender, age, race, ethnicity, free and reduced-price lunch status, special-education status, and English-language-learner status
What are the real numbers?

So this graph is fake news? Regardless, there’s a few states below us on the blue line scale - WIN!

What does adjusted mean in laymen terms?
our poor kids are smarter than their poor kids

Many schools now have a class on how to take the test and even give all the questions over time.

The documentary on how Mississippi and Louisiana forged test scores is gonna be amazing.

If you look at the "unadjusted" scores, yikes, New Mexico is be shitte.
NM has a high percentage of Hispanics and Native Americans.
Neither group tests well to say the least.

No chance. He has the charisma of a potato. Our state superintendent is highly paid and has been earning that check for a while. We also have one of the highest per student spends in the whole country about time it paid off.

So Massachusetts has the best scores? Demographic adjusted, lol. What a joke.
Posted on 4/8/25 at 8:45 am to RaoulDuke504
Adjusted for demographics? What exactly does that mean, does it mean Louisiana and Mississippi have the smartest white kids in the country, smartest black kids in the country? I mean for those 2 states to have the highest “adjusted for demographics” scores in the country it has to mean something to that affect. It’s not like the scores here give pity bonus points to certain states. That wouldn’t make sense
Posted on 4/8/25 at 8:47 am to RaoulDuke504
What the frick, New Mexico???? Their unadjusted number is unbelievably bad.
Posted on 4/8/25 at 8:48 am to RaoulDuke504
Tons of free points basically. It’s like the demographics outweigh the actual results. Last place in actual scores but first place in demographics = first place? Laughable. I could see some correction to show the schools are doing better than comparable schools in affluent areas when adjusting, but this is insane to say LA schools are better than Massachusetts schools as a whole just because the demographics are worse

What do you mean plenty? Yes there’s a couple, but Miss and LA are almost always last in education

Still don't believe it. State is full of people who cannot read and do not know what the different colors of a stop light mean. That doesn't change.

Can you not see the ACTUAL unadjusted scores from this data set?
It’s the clearly visible blue line. If you click on the link you can see idk maybe half of the states have lower unadjusted scores than Mississippi
