Not a good comparison. In 1971 a middle class type new home had no garage, Formica, particle board cabinets, linoleum flooring, etc. The standard home has much more costly finishes now rather than 50 years ago.
I’m on the younger end of posters on the OT(late 20s) and doing fine (CPA), but damn it feels like it would have been easier if I was doing this 20 years ago. The math supports that assumption too. It isnt impossible like many gen-z/millennials say it is, but older people have their head in the sand if you think we have it easier or just as hard as they had it.

Of course its not the ONLY way. As a matter of fact I didn't even mention it in my original post because its not for everyone.
My original post says everything. Go for a better paying job, and don't listen to everyone that says "do what you love". Those people are idiots because you will have to work some shite jobs.
Save your money. Don't spend on stupid shite. Self explanatory.
Take your time and be patient building equity in something.

I don't think anyone is complaining. They are pointing out that your go get em attitude would have afforded you even more success in the 70s than it does now.

The neighborhood I grew up in, where my parents were able to afford a pretty nice house on one salary now has teardowns listed for 600-800k.

I have a nice home. And am also upgrading my home very soon.
But I also think about my kids and the future in which they will be entering. And its pretty easy to recognize that it will be more difficult for them to have what I have, just like it was more difficult for me to get what I have than for my parents.
And it shouldn't be that way.
This isn't complaining. This is recognizing a serious problem with our system and just ignoring because "I got mine" is a really selfish and pathetic way to view the world.

No it wouldn’t. 1.60 would be 13.00 an hour today or around 27,000 a year on a 40 hour work week.
All you’re showing is how real estate inflation has far outpaced inflation on everything else. But that’s not going to change as there is a limited amount of land available to purchase while the population grows so more people means higher demand and less available real estate to buy so that means rapidly higher pricing

In the 70s homes you to cost what was equal to 2 or 3 times the amount of the average income.
Today, its 6 or 7 times the amount of the average income.

. The whole point of the argument is that if you put in equal amounts of work in the 70s and in the 2020s, you end up with way less in the 2020s.
