re: Minimum wage in the 1970s would be the equivalent of making almost $56,000 a year now

Not a good comparison. In 1971 a middle class type new home had no garage, Formica, particle board cabinets, linoleum flooring, etc.
The standard home has much more costly finishes now rather than 50 years ago.

When minimum wage went from $2.90 to $3.10, I thought I was suddenly rich. Made enough cutting grass at the Club to buy my own bicycle.

In the mid 70's when I was a kid, my mom worked 30 hours at $1.75 and my dad worked 40 hours at a plant making $7 an hour. That computes to $1540 a month and $18,480 annually BEFORE taxes....and we lived comfortably.

This isn't really meaningful unless you control for how house prices have changed compared to inflation, and also how big houses are.
Also the average house went from 1500sft to 2600 sft, almost double. If you controlled for inflation and size, you might find that the needed wages are significantly less.
Also consider cars and other expenses (college???) have signifcanlty outpaced inflation.
Today's consumer is well served by pulling their head out of their arse and making smarter decisions than the average person.

Tell these libturds. It takes discipline to succeed. Quit drinking $10 coffee and paying for Netflix.

That's not all that far off of what comes with new "starter" home builds.
You can get nicer countertops, but ~50 square feet of quartz countertops ain't pushing the needle on build costs.
You aren't getting a garage, your cabinets are going to be about as cheap as they come and you will have carpet and vinyl flooring.

Get over yourself.
What I did is the definition of sacrifice to have a better future. Stop wanting shite now and work for it.

So where should folks find a house that is under 1500 square feet with 3 bedrooms (parents and two kids) and one bath for less than 250K?
If it’s not in a city, you’re also going to be paying out of the arse for the land it sits on.
These houses don’t really exist to the regular buyer after COVID because they’re either still owned by older generations or they’ve been bought up by LLCs to rent out. And new builds are not going to be in that range you’re discussing.

The “American dream” is pretty much solely based on home ownership. It’s what made America truly different was owning your own property
That is pretty much dying on the vine

Cool.
Guess what? Your sacrifice would have been more beneficial in the 70s, 80s, and 90s than today.
That's the point that you seem to be purposely ignoring for some weird reason.

Don’t come on here and preach to folks about bettering their situation if your only offer is join the military. Or acting like you didn’t get a baked in advantage that we paid for.

The point I'm making is to stop blaming the world for your problems. I'm not trying to be a dick. But if you believe the system is set up against you, then you will not even try. Complaining about the current state of things will get you nowhere, there are plenty of options to make the dream happen..
