Better educated.

Getting a useless degree doesn't equal better educated as a whole. And sure as hell doesn't mean you are even smart.

How is this useless degree theory still alive

As a member of Gen X I have to say I find it hilarious (and slightly pathetic) how many Millennials think nothing is their fault and blame everything on their grandparents.

I guess as a boomer I did it wrong. My kids all got majors in something that they knew they’d get jobs in that suited their life goals. None of them followed in my footsteps, but as a parent I gave them all the support and ability to market themselves in what they wished to pursue. But as so often is the case with threads like this, the OP’s opinion, and maybe that of those supporting him, is based on the sad fact that not all parents are good parents. That’s not the fault of an entire generation. There’s just as many incompetent millennial parents as there are boomer parents..

Exactly. Spending more time being indoctrinated in colleges doesn’t equal “better educated”.

Nobody's fault but your own that basic economics is beyond your grasp. Degrees in easily commoditized or saturated fields are worthless in and of themselves.

Got almost enough JB in me.

Just pisses me off that there are just so many lazy MF's will to do the blame game.

Even if what you are saying is true, let's by all means commission 18 year olds to exactly get this calculus right. Where the hell were their boomer parents to provide advice on such a thing?

Analyzing a group as broad as 21 to 37 year olds creates a bunch of strange data anomalies given where each part of that demographic is during their life stage. I’d care a lot more about how 30-37 year olds (which are basically 8+ years into a career) compare versus the same age range twenty years prior.

All this to say, the “millennial” group is not really a singular group that can be analyzed well. A 35-37 year old has very little in common with a 22-24 year old of the “same generation”.

I am not talking about individual boomers though, I am talking about companies run by boomers keeping more profits than they have in the past, creating a wealth gap.

So it's not boomers at all, it's CEOs and business owners?
So why say boomers?
Is it just boomer CEOs and owners? GenX and millennial business owners don't do these 'hoarding' practices (aka maximizing investments)?

quote:

FTR I love boomers, sorry if I have given the wrong impression. They just kind of fricked up the economy for the younger generations and its fun to come on this board and talk about it.

Aside from all the shitty laws and regulations the boomers passed, they haven't 'fricked up' anything for you with their financial decisions. You say you don't expect anything from boomers, but you keep using the word 'hoarding' and you keep implying that younger generations have some sort of claim to this money. They don't. The 'wealth gap' is not the responsibility of boomers. It's your problem.

FTR I don't care if you love boomers or not, I'm not a boomer, I'm a millennial. I'm just tired of seeing millennials blame boomers because they didn't get enough. I'm not saying the economy isn't shittier for millennials because it is, but you will never get what you want by demanding boomers share what they earned when you didn't earn it from them

So did you research the job market and your career choices before choosing your major?

Absolutely. Common sense and it was advice repeatedly heard from my parents and teachers.

You are having a very hard time grasping what people call worthless degrees....

I promise you the posters arent speaking about engineering and mathematics as “worthless degrees”, they are speaking of the liberal arts and humanities

Fact is, milennials are graduating with a higher pct of degrees in engineering, science, and math than any other generation

Boomers and gen X graduated with a higher pct of “worthless degrees”, however their barrier to entry was lower entering the job market

None of what I posted is a controversial opinion. It’s rooted in facts and dats, yet this board refuses to accept it in every millennial thread

I’ve seen this posted more than once in this thread and I’ve got to ask... are y’all fricking serious with this shite? You honestly think the job market is shite? You honestly think the economy is shite? How can people be this stupid?

The job market was warmed over shite mixed with old cum and vomit for the majority of millenials upon entry compared to boomers

If you can’t wrap your head around that, there is zero hope to have a real discussion

The heart of milennials entered the job market from 2004-2014

Because of the math of compounding percentage pay raises, the key is that the job market was shite when millennials entered.

Correct. Most millennials are in their 30s now

Today’s job market maybe good, but that’s 10 years from market entry

I mean, I graduated into an economy that was on a 24 month streak of negative job growth.

Yeah, it was shite.

Way more degrees, but gender and women’s studies degrees are worthless.

It was shite from 2004-2014ish, when Millenials were graduating college.
