I don't remember exactly but there's no way methane is going to dissolve much into water right?

Right. Methane has a specific gravity of approximately 0.6 relative to air. It's going to rise pretty quickly.

But that is an offshore pipeline where only crude separation takes place on the platform. Most of the the gas is methane but a substantial amount is ethane and a smaller amount is propane then butane. As the number of Cs increase the lower the concentration in an offshore gas pipeline.

From there the "gas" gets sent to a gas plant to separate the NGLs form the methane. As a side note, the reason you never see ethane as a fuel source is due to the fact that chemical plants buy it up and make ethylene out of it and make ethylene into polyethylene and many other types of plastics.

Not any meaningful amount, especially in warm GoM waters. Methane is nonpolar, so it isn’t very soluble in water. It will all eventually either bubble out or form hydrates at the sea floor (which are extremely abundant in nature) if the water is deep enough.

ETA: However, the gas in that pipeline is likely pretty rich in liquids, so there was almost certainly some amount of “oil” released. But it’s Pemex, so I doubt there will be any disclosure of the estimated volume.

Depending on the price of ethane we run gas plants in ethane recovery or rejection.

Just confirming, it didn't seem like there would since the polar/non-polarness.

Cool about the hydrates. :cheers;

Oil pipeline leak is the cover story, but this was really a portal to Hell opening.

Hmmm? That would be the gas production from leases our domestic O&G operators lost because Plugs hates fossil fuel and shut down exploration in the Gulf?

America, you are so screwed.

That's not a pipeline fire. I'm pretty sure the Mexicans are trying to summon Diablo. Either that or Michael Bay is making a movie and this is post-production reel from a trailer.

Is there not enough water already there in the gulf for this?
