these 2 dudes should have been put to death
I heard a lawyer say the case came on the heels of the OJ verdict and prosecutors et al were anxious to throw the book at someone.

Been watching the Netflix series and wondering if it's actually accurate.
Some of it is. There is a Law & Order True Crime limited series that is closer to the truth. I recommend watching it if you can find it. It's not overly dramatic like the Netflix series and goes further into how they were railroaded in their second trial due to politics.

I used to doubt their story but there seems to be a lot of evidence pointing towards it being true at least to some degree. I don't think their second trial was fair at all and at the very least they deserved a review of it.

. They weren’t believed at the time because people at that time thought boys couldn’t be sexually abused.
I don't remember this being the case at all. It was more that the victims didn't want to say anything bc of the public shame of being forced into gay sex acts especially with a family member.

These Netflix “documentaries” are just public relations campaigns produced by biased parties. You get the public to watch 3-8 hours of reenactments. Then they think they know more than jurors who spent months going over every detail of the case. Think Making a Murderer or the first Serial podcast.

I’m pretty sure one of the brothers in the trial back in the 90s testified that Mom was also sexually abusing him.
I believe Lyle testified that the mom abused him. I don't recall any details of that abuse. Lyle also said the father stopped when he was 8, but Erik said it never stopped for him and he finally told Lyle days before the killings. I believe they confronted the parents and then testified they were afraid the parents would kill them to keep them from talking. I think they threatened to go public with the abuse allegations.

What are the odds someone has 2 parents that sexually abuses them? Sorry I'm not buying it.

Probably low but there have been cases since the Menendez bros where both parents were abusers.

Well the spending spree they went on immediately after the killings, said it all.

What did it say exactly? They were always spoiled even before the parents were shot.
$300K of the $700K was to purchase into a business

I would be curious to see you expound on this keeping in mind they did not argue they didn't kill their parents.

Idk. What are the chances a cop skeets in muffins and his wife brings them to school for her students to eat? My wife was sexually abused by her step father and her mother was at the very least complicit. I would imagine it happens a lot more than you think. Lots of crazy, sick individuals in this world.

I don't know enough about the details to argue this one way or another.
but I think the argument was always "why" and not "if"
some argued they did it out of defense (because of the abuse)
others said it was for the money, and use the spending as evidence.

Had they admitted what happened from the start they would likely be out or getting out soon but they tried to cover it up then went out on a shopping spree buying Rolex watches and a Porsche with the dead parents money

I don't believe they were as rich as the media made them out to be. The stuff they spent money on before getting arrested wasnt that extravagant .

The estate was worth $14 million in 1990. That's equal to $33 million today.

If the man was abusing and torturing his two teenage sons, what makes you think he wasn't abusing, torturing, and threatening his wife if she were to say anything about what was going on?
As a mother you’d have to kill me not to take my kids out of that situation.

Come on now. There’s no way it’s almost worse.
Sure, it's not worse than committing the abuse, but if she knew about it (and it actually did happen), then I don't feel bad about what happened to her.

agreed the Law & Order one was better, at least I think thats the one I watched 7-8 years ago, like 8 episodes, and actual footage etc.
I always left really not knowing which side to believe at all, although I felt there was some credence to the boys stories.....and I actually feel like I'm going more towards them now.
Didn't retrial disallow any evidence\talking about the sex abuse? I know nothing about law but that always stood out as extremely odd to me.
ps....the movie on Netflix got that Milli Vanilli song poppin on the radio again!

I hope they are released. They’ve served their time.

I want to say there was some weird shite like she was still "bathing" him as an older teenager/young adult. It's been awhile and I haven't watched the show either so I don't know if it gets into that.
While you don't see that very often, it's not unheard of to have two parents who are actively abusing or one that is and the other participates in concealing it.
