I have two, advanced specialized degrees and it took me 6+ months to find a job in my field and I'm taking a huge pay cut just to work there. Job market is absolutely horrendous. But yeah, blame cell phones and how we're entitled

Jimbeam, I was in the exact same boat.

Engineering undergrad in 2007, market was crazy good. Heard all the stories about getting a masters to get even more money.

Got my masters in 2009, right after the economy shite the bed. Couldn't find shite.

Went back and got my PhD. Life is very good at the moment.

It may be worthwhile to look into it.

I always like the cell phone excuse considering most millennials were college age or older when the first iPhone was released. Millennials typically grew up without cell phones, it isn't like we had our head buried in YouTube at the age of 2.

Wait until these baby boomers see Brayden, Kayden, and Jayden in action 20 years from now. If they haven't died from being fat

Every person I know who got a biomedical engineering degree can't find a job in the field. Is that considered a liberal arts degree?

How much did that Biomed Engineering degree cost, Walrus? I'm willing to bet its about 220% more expensive than these folks doing the criticizing about your work ethic.

I'm 34. I got my first cell phone my freshman year of college, and it had no text messaging and Snake was the only game. I didn't have a computer my first semester of my freshman year. I don't understand how you can lump people that grew up without the internet together with people that have never known life without it. I find that people my age have a very different perspective than people 10 years younger than me.

I would say by looking at the numbers that some are either in High School or College.
Other are probably starting their first job out of college on the ground floor or working part time looking for full time work.
The rest are living in their moms basement playing video games.
We also forget the group that is slinging drugs on the streets. They probably hide their income.

Holy shite this so much! I have nothing in common with a 20-25 year old. Hell I would go back in time and smack my dumbass around now.

But this thread does make me feel better about my take home. Kind of sucks that people are struggling out there like that though.

The guy with the Engineering degree that cant find a job, is it in Petro?? If not, Texas is the land of BSEE and BSME jobs. Can't help you out if its petro though. Them baws still struggling.

Agreed. I remember having the use the courtesy computer in the student union when I was running around campus and needed to know something quick. Smartphones weren't yet a staple of everyday life.

A 30 year old and a 20 year old are very different.

They only have themselves to blame. Get off the freaking couch and solve some problems. Oh yeah, they don't know how to think.

I know that is a broad brush, but I have two of them working for me and I swear some days it is all they can do to remember to wipe their arse.

They both are in that range and I don't think they are even earning that much.

1990 for me and 1991 for my wife.

My wife is ~43k as a teacher, and I am ~105k as an EHS Lead. Guess we are over achieving...

I got my first cell phone in 98, but we had a computer in the 80s. Wasn't too impressive though, and we used typewriters until the mid 90s

Part of the problem is that people look for work directly related to their degree and everything wants a few years experience cause the job market has devalued the degree a bit. Basically people with experience are looking for work so entry people are fricked right now.

I will say this some people my age and myself included, aren't great at networking. Many others just aren't connected.

a co-worker of mine has an industrial engineering degree with minor safety management and he is working the same job I am. He'll be in sales or mgmt if he stays here for much longer. People are just taking work where they can get it but it kind of fricks with your career path the further you get from your degree.

I fricked around in college so I have had to take shitty entry level jobs that put my arse to work.
