Oh wow, I saw that in this thread but assumed the poster just came up with that, didn't realize it was in the article I admittedly didn't read.

Yea, that's BS. I guess we shouldn't have nice things because there are poor people 45 minutes away.

They aren't using the Allen GC or major subs. They are using the same GC and several of the subcontractors that worked on the new Dallas Cowboys HQ in Frisco.

McKinney ISD. Which shel would know better than If the high schools are further broken down into smaller districts.

Just the 1 ISD, not broken down as far as I know.

I've only lived here 1 year, and the makeup of the school districts is odd. I live in McKinney(though near the Frisco border), and my boys elementary school is located in McKinney, but my boys are in the Frisco ISD. Makes no sense to me, but Frisco ISD may be even better than McKinney, so it's ok either way.

Not sure how people put up with those tax rates. Almost 5k a year on a 200k home and 8+ precent sales tax.

No justification and a huge waste somewhere.

Voted as the best city to live in in America and some of the best educational systems in America.

Crime and poverty are virtually nonexistent.

Just to name a couple of reasons that make it 100% worth the tax rates.

LOL at "no justification." Enjoy Orlando!!!

Ok so $2.48 per $100 for schools. On $500k it is $12,400 per year for school in property tax.

No. According to McKinney's website, it's 2.48 total

With no state income tax, homestead exemptions and the fact that you can escrow your property taxes, it all works out. Plus we're paying for great schools and not having to add private school tuition on top of everything else we pay.

Wow...just looked at home prices in the area. I would expect it to be a helluva lot more expensive than it actually is. I could get more of a house for less than what I'm paying here in Cola.

(Granted, I am less than five minutes from downtown where I work...)

I lived in Old Shandon (Lee Street) during law school and it was in the process of being gentrified. I imagine the property values have soared in the 6 years since I was there.

I live in Seminole county which has no income tax, less than half that property tax rate, 7% sales tax and is an A rated school system.

If you enjoy giving the govt that much in taxes, go ahead but I would rather keep my money.

I really like McKinney. I use to live there. Has good schools and lots of charm. They have some great golf courses including a TPC course. Also, the downtown is a great spot for shopping and dining.

Its been constantly in money magazines Top 10 for best city for families.

Price is also dependent on the area in the city, West of 75 or East of 75, subdivision is also dependent be it the historic district, Craig Ranch, Stonebridge, King's Lake, etc.

Ok so the total for schools is $1.62 and the balance is the mileage for whatever services...police, fire etc...

I'm just trying to get a feel for the numbers.

Ohhhhh ya. There and the Millwood and Cottontown neighborhoods. I'm in an older area of Forest Acres, and there's five houses being renovated within a few blocks of me. The house I'm in was a complete gut and renovate. Old baw I bought it from though just got divorced, wife took the kids, and took a job in Charlotte. Lucky me. Got it for a steal. Hope his ex enjoys the money

I lived in Orlando and Clermont from 2001 to 2015. Those 2 places and Seminole county aren't even in the same stratosphere of nicer places to live.

To each his own on what you want to pay for/keep your money, but saying there's "no justification" for it is just naive. Those extra taxes are why it's a wayyyyyyy better place to live, raise children, more things to do, less poverty, less crime...but if those things mean nothing to you, that's fine.

Yeah. It's unreal. My wife told me they're somehow going to have walls that collapse and all three schools will be connected.

We live in Fairfield so the commute for my wife will be much better. Right now she's off HWY6. It'll be great for me too because we send our youngest to Goddard in Bridgeland but I work off 249. Makes my commute brutal in the morning.

It'll also be great because once my two year old gets to kinder my wife will just take him with her to the school (district employees can send their kids to whatever school they choose, even if they don't teach at that school). The schools she's taught at prior we never sent our oldest to so we pay for before/after care at our zoned school. $200 a month so nothing huge but over the year that translates to 2 grand. He's in fifth next year so we're leaving it to him if he wants to go to the new school but I'd rather him just stay at his school in Fairfield with his friends.

Plus once we're done paying for daycare, we plan to move over to Bridgeland anyway.
