I get what you are saying and these did just be more than a football stadium. However, the football stadium has absolutely become pissing contest of "who can have the nicest" between the Texas Burbs.

I'm sure you're correct about this pissing contest. I just think at the end of the day, students in this ISD lost nothing, I'm guessing nothing really had to be sacrificed for this stadium, so I don't see the huge issue.

I really don't buy the argument that ticket sales generate enough revenue. They are like $5. Even at max capacity for every game that is going to take awhile.

Well, it is going to be used a lot. But as I said, I think a lot of its value is intangible or indirect. The stadium and the nice schools and all of these things are reasons why this is one of the best towns in America to live in with one of the best educational systems to live in. It'll all ties together IMO.

I agree. You have to look at this from a bigger picture perspective.

This is literally being built 5 minutes from my house. Its gonna be nice .

I laugh because i live in Allen which borders McKinney and they took shite because they built a 63 million dollar stadium. My buddy in McKinney use to rag all the Allen people for it and now he brags about this new place(which is 2 miles from the Allen stadium FYI).

The Allen stadium took shite but is packed every Friday night, has an underground golf, gymnastics, and weight room facility, and gets a ton of use. Last i heard they were years ahead of having it paid off. They have Chick Fila, Dickeys, and a ton of concessions and spirit stores inside the stadium and make a ton on game days.

This is a pic i took from opening night last year at Allen when they hosted Hoover, Alabama.

I get that but I think you could be one that would accomplish this for much less.

The weight room, arts funding(often is tied to these deals), and everything surrounding the stadiums wouldn't be built without football pissing match motivating people. So that is good.

Again at the end of the day, it was up to the taxpayers.

So the property tax on Mckinney stadium is $1.62 per $100 value of taxable property.

So a $500k home is taxed at $8,100 per year. Is this just for the stadium or is this for the entire 200 million school bond package that was passed?

Is this the only school taxes paid for this district? And I just used 500k as a reference number.

Academics don't suffer as a result of this. Schools get a ton of bond money as well. This is what public education should be. Independent communities being able to centralize their tax money on things they can tangibly see. This is not a rich or poor thing. I coach at a title 1 school north of Fort Worth that was built 5 years ago for 140M. We are 75% minority and 65% economically disadvantaged. This place has every bell and whistle and advantage you could be possibly want for a kid

Just looked it up. Total property tax is 2.48 per $100 of value. And there is a 8.25% sales tax (includes state and local).

On a $500,000 home, it's $12,400 per year. However, browsing through their real estate market, you get more bang for your buck in McKinney than in Baton Rouge. A $500,000 home along the Jefferson corridor in BR is probably around $425,000 in McKinney.

So, it's a cheaper sales tax but a higher property tax with no income tax. I imagine it's close to a wash once you figure out the effective rate - except they have small colleges for HS and we have Woodlawn.

No, but isn't McKinney, TX one of the fastest growing areas in America? Places like this need new schools due to overcrowding. That's $70 million that could go to building new schools when needed.

This is a dumb statement. McKinney still has tens of millions of dollars to build schools.

YOU don't get to decide how they spend their local tax dollars. They do.

But looking at this stadium, I can't believe that many people would attend a HS football game. I know the picture shows a packed stadium, but even if that stadium is half full, that's a lot of people at a HS game.

You better believe it will be close to or at maximum capacity. There are people on waiting lists for season tickets for some schools.

About 5 years ago two season tickets for my sons school was $210 for the season. Which only included the home games. Half the season they were considered the visitors and those tickets were I think $12 at the gate.

I have seen people turned away because the stadium was at capacity.

The ROI is good which is why the communities support building them.

Other than football the stadiums are used for soccer, band competitions, audio and video classes, and some use the campuses for votech classes. In some cases the facilities are rented out for other uses.

In unrelated news, a study released earlier this month found that there are 294,650 people living in poverty in Dallas — nearly twice the population of McKinney.

This is idiotic. We deserve the bad shite that's coming our way.

On the plus side, it looks easily defensible. I'm sure some baws will be posted up there shooting looters in a few years.
If it's grass, it could make a good survival garden as well for a bunch of lucky folks.

Ok so it is $2.48 total property tax with $1.62 dedicated for schools correct? Is that for the county or Mckinney proper?

70 Million $$?

Don't they know how many monuments they could have taken down with that much money?

(apology if already stated. I did not read all 6 pages of comments)

Priorities in this country are so out of whack it's ridiculous.

So you're saying they should have voted to have themselves pay more taxes for the poor or something? Or that we should tax people to a point where they wouldn't even entertain something like this?

They voted to pay for it. So I don't get the issue.

Ok so $2.48 per $100 for schools. On $500k it is $12,400 per year for school in property tax.

What is the rest of the property tax for a homeowner in Mckinney?

This one doesn't just belong to one school either. It belongs to McKinney ISD, which currently has 3 high schools but with the way the area is growing, will have another soon.
