My first thought as well. I’m guessing the tax charges are the only convictions, but other more nefarious charges were dropped in a plea deal. There is no way all of these NOLA political types only get busted for tax evasion. The easy charge to prove is that they didn’t pay taxes on the 250k kickback. Proving fraud on the actual 250k payment would require a little effort, which does not happen.
Let’s not act like the lack of a competent CPA is the only reason they were convicted.
