Hopefully she doesn't get too far away from building on the things that Kip helped to get setup here.

OMG... A black woman is mayor.. People freaked out when Holden was elected and whether you agree or not, he was the best mayor BR had in a long time. Maybe Broome ran her campaign in a way that would get her elected.... That doesn't mean that's the type of mayor she will be.
Its not like the black monster people will be coming after whitey or anything.. Calm down.
All those straw men. Where to start?
1. People are not concerned because she is a black woman. They are concerned because she is 100% in step with the same Black Democrat Establishment that can be demonstrated to have run dozens of American cities into the ground. When your organizing principle for governance is spend as much money as possible on things that have never worked people have a right to be concerned.
2. Kip Holden won precisely because he had white support. Kip left the inner city and made it a point to reach out to everybody. He also never succumbed to the divisive progressive tactic of dividing his city by race, something Broome has made an entire career of.Kip's white support never wavered, which is a testament to both sides.
3. Broome has a long and dubious record to anybody who favors responsible government. That bodes ill for law and order, coddling of criminals at the expense of law enforcement and for responsible use of taxpayer money.
4. I agree people need to calm the f*ck down. One never knows what will happen until it happens. And it's not like we had a choice of great candidates. We basically had our choice of a half dozen shite sandwiches. And we got one.

The problem is Gary Chambers apparently being one of her advisors/confidants.
Agree that Holden was pretty good. He did some idiotic stuff like continuing to inject the "ALIVE" project into infrastructure funding bills, but otherwise he ran the city as a centrist.

He is at least loosely associated with her campaign. He was at her victory party Saturday and she has verbalized support for his views...I believe she might be using him for his influence with the idiot demographic that hang on his every word. The problem is that he will be expecting some sort of "payback" in the form of influence with her administration. It will all hinge on how she manages him...I don't think she can afford to stoop to the level of ignorance he is capable of.
The last thing she wants though (and us) is an angry fat body chambers sending votes to the Denise Marcelle's of the world in 4 years. I hate to admit it but that bastard has become frighteningly relevant.

It's a little early to jump the gun and say she will be terrible. The reality is that in order for her to get anything done, she will still have to appease the power players that actually dictate the way the city is run. Money talks and the people that control that money will have a big say in how things go.
And isn't the Ascension parish president, Kenny Matassa under indictment for bribery? Why would people be jumping the gun to go from one alleged corrupt parish to the next?

She's no C. Denise Marcelle but wasn't she still out at the riots over Alton?

The hatred I've seen spewed about Sharon Broome disgusts me. Two examples: She'll "turn this into a city of thugs and crime"... Let's keep saying we're not a racist city because we all know thugs means n****** and crime means black crime. "She hates the police"... People really are completely ridiculous if they believe we don't need politicians to help keep the balance of powers with sources of authority, because the authority that walks our streets under paramilitary structure with the power of life and DEATH in their hands needs a great amount of balance. I could go on with examples but I won't because it comes down to ONE THING. Y'all clearly just didn't watch her speech (because she was PREACHING!) Y'all clearly just have not realized that there is something about a black person and a woman and heaven forbid a BLACK WOMAN who will be in power that makes you grit your teeth and makes your skin crawl. Because she is an amazingly godly, strong, supportive, uniting woman who I have seen be happy to stay in the back rather than place herself in the spotlight, a woman who truly does lead to SERVE, who spoke of nothing but unity during her campaign, and y'all are STILL going to come in here with hate. (And then you're going to go sit in your church pew this morning and act like you are there for Jesus' teachings...)

We have been wanting to move out of Louisiana but have been hesitant to do so because our pensions are tied to the state (both in education). However, now we are thinking of just biting the bullet and sucking it up. May have to work a few extra years before we can retire but we could still retire relatively young and most importantly we would (hopefully) enjoy the next 25-30 years of working instead of being miserable in this city and state.
I am just glad it wasn't Marcelle and Kip was great but I don't trust her completely. I think she has a definite agenda.

If our road expansion needs are due to 10 plus years of growth, then WTF has happened to the increased tax revenues generated by all of that growth? Why isn't that paying for roads and infrastructure? Why does every improvement that anyone can propose in this parish require a new tax?
1. Much of the growth is outside of the city limits but still puts a major amount of strain on our roadways and the interstate. They come through her to shop, eat, etc.
2. Homestead exemption. Too many people in the city limits live in poor areas where they are paying nothing in taxes on their property because it is valued below $75,000 and if it is above that it is not by much.

She represented North Baton Rouge for like 30 years and look how booming it is...
And, for someone who's family has lived in Baton Rouge for 100 years I hate to see it going in the toilet. We are like Jackson, MS. If my wife and I didn't have great jobs I'd have to say we'd have moved to Covington a long time ago.

yes, she wasn't making sure she was caught on camera like C Denise but she was protesting
Gary used it early on in his push for her for mayor

Serious question: has there ever been a black female mayor of a city that is thriving? I've only seen them heading up dumpster fires like Baltimore.

Anyone that listens to Gary Chambers and takes his advisement seriously is not looking out for the improvement of community but the interests of sub-communities. Chambers is a racist. Plain and simple.

If the growth was outside of the city limits, but still in EBR parish, then it should have generated massive tax revenue for EBR. Much of the growth in neighboring parishes results in major expenditures in EBR. And even if the growth was in Ascension and Livingston, then if "they come through here to shop, eat, etc," then they are paying sales taxes here. Where did that tax revenue go? Growth generates revenue, but in EBR, the public appears to be ignorant of that simple fact.

So the green light plan that was just defeated was another property tax, subjected to the same Homestead Exemption issue. And the second half of that plan took the sales tax (which is not affected by homestead exemption) and pushed it to fund political pork projects like sidewalks and bike lanes that only a starry-eyed fool would argue has any meaningful impact on BR's traffic problems.

I'd be willingly to bet she just pandered to his BS to get his support

I hope you are correct man. I can see her using him to project her positively for his followers. I didn't think a lot of people bought into his BS. Besides Meghan Matt I mean.
