I hear many saying that the results of the Mayor's race will accelerate the already tremendous amount of White Flight from Baton Rouge.

What can Mayor Broome do to stem the trend? Baton Rouge has been sitting idly by while the money has been steadily moving away.

Not sure what kind of mayor she will be, but she comes in with a "black first" reputation. I know nothing about her other than what I hear.

My Dad has lived in BR for almost 80 years, and now he is talking to Realtors about listing his house.

What kind of person have you guys elected? Is it all hysteria, or is she really that big a shitshow?

Typical pandering. BR will continue to grow to be like Detroit, Baltimore, Oakland, NO, Etc...

Mayor is a relatively pointless office IMO. Might be in the minority with that line of thinking but I honestly don't think my family's lives would have been significantly impacted either way. What am I missing?

Hysterical when people overreact. I detest the times in which we live in.

She's not going to destroy BR, but the fact that she wants to focus all of her energy (and likely a lot of our resources) outside of the major tax revenue base pisses a bunch of people off.

Myself included.

She pandered to her base during a period of easy exploitation in the City-Parish.

Outside of overseeing/appointing the Police Chief, her powers are largely limited by the Metro Council, which despite its dysfunction, does a good job of keeping the Mayor-President position in check.

She also can't afford to shut out BRAF, BRAC, etc and they aren't going to put up with the pandering to racial politics.

Typical city lots in south BR and other desirable areas are bringing $250K and up, there are record numbers of houses being built valued at over one million dollars, money is doing anything but moving away.

She's spent her entire adult life in Louisiana.

She may have a much more difficult time with even that if she tries to follow through with her threat to get rid of the current chief on day 1.

If she fires him and he decides to fight it, then an appeal in front of the civil service board would follow. And she will have to show some sort of cause if that scenario plays out

Hypothetically, if he were to stay put what rank would he fall to and would he keep his current pay rate?

I believe that he would have to go back to his previous rank, (LT), and his pay would revert to that pay code if he was in fact demoted and the civil service board upheld.

People are seriously overreacting. Broome is not Marcelle. She may have courted the black vote but she is not some black-liberation communist wackadoo. She will still be a pro-business mayor/president. With that being said, I am uncertain how her community policing efforts will work out. A similar plan was tried with great success in Gardere, but I don't know how she will implement it in the rest of the city/parish. If it means fewer speed traps and checkpoints and more murders and property crime getting solved, then I'm all for it. I am also worried about infrastructure development. The last 8 years have seen the best stretch of improvements in the city's infrastructure since the 70's. Unfortunately, most voters did not realize that both proposed taxes for the Greenlight plan had to pass in order for it to go into effect (one passed, the other didn't). That failure, and Broome's seeming lack of comprehensive vision on that front may threaten to derail future progress.
