The fact that we have thousands of people like Stella Adams in this country with that background who make a living this way is pathetic.
And the federal government has tons of them

This whole ordeal has been classic New Orleans & Louisiana politics. From the length of time it’s taken to even get to this point, to the questionable methods to pick the “finalists,” and now to this proposal for which the financial backing has all of a sudden disappeared just SCREAMS New Orleans.

If anyone hasn’t already, go watch “Closed for Storm” on Amazon Prime. It’s a documentary about the brief history of the park, its “temporary” closure when Katrina approached, the immediate aftermath & events and finishes up with the proposal process & how the City mismanaged that. Troy Henry is one of the interviewees featured as another one of the individuals looking to redevelop the site.

If there was two brain cells behind the development, they’d build something to support the port coming to chalmette.

Why do people avoid Reality ?

This place could be turned into 'Escape from NOLA' type reality shooting obstacle course. If you make it to the end of the course and you are alive you win, a stuffed nutria.

Populate the lake with real alligators and water moccasins along with falling down abandoned buildings with dumpsters to hide behind and be able to shoot from. Also with a complete gun store with discount bulk ammo.
Boom boom stereo car competitions on the weekend with live rap singers along with twerking contest. Plenty of purnurple drank being sold, ice cold. Boil crawfish available for family reunions.

Who is the customer base for this type of business at this particular location?

Now, there are plans for 30 acres of athletic fields illuminated with professional-level lights, eight NBA-level hardwood courts, an indoor and outdoor water park

Hmmmm….what could that customer base be?

Clear the land and let nature take its course.

The government in New Orleans cannot manage the population and facilities they have now.

If they really want to make good use of the land, a much needed large prison should be built and populated.

Serious question for the NOLA residents. Does this even excite you? We already know who the patrons are going to be.

Athletic fields/courts are complete money losers for private business - even in the best circumstances and locations. They are great for municipalities, due to sales tax and visitor/hotel taxes.

So any private industry claiming to invest in amateur sports fields is either dumb, or a grifter.

Water sports parks are also a big loser, outside of huge cities with large populations to support. New Orleans has neither. This will likely never be built, will fail if so.

Too many times.
I guess it’s about time for us to hear about the stupid idea of the commuter train from BR to Nola that comes up once a year or so.

This seems idiotic, but I wish Jefferson Parish would try and redevelop the zephyr field property into some kind of community athletic facility - basketball courts, ice rink, climbing gym - something that actually improves the lives of the residents of Jefferson parish rather than just turn it over to another single tenant/single use sports field.

So let me get this right. Homeowners in South LA can barely find insurance but an insurance company is going to cover a theme park in a crime infested swamp that's already been wiped out once by a hurricane and is basically just sitting in between marshes.

Umm ok.

That’s just a few details in the half-a-billion-dollar plan that the developer hopes will only take 42 months to complete.

it’ll cost 3x times that and take 42 months of greasing palms to get past all the permits before construction even begins
