no not even close. I just like the current model better. it makes for a more competitive market place. if we swap to buying directly from the manufacturer, there will be no negotiation and the only competition will be between manufacturers. which we already have that with incentives and rebates.

Buy used. I will never ever buy anything from a dealer or other auto shop ever again in my lifetime

There is no way you just came across the market adjustment thing.

100% op started this thread to brag about attempting to buy a ~150k truck

Doesn’t sound like ‘ordering’ a vehicle, sounds like you’re being charged to skip to the front of the line for their normal allotment.

Maybe shop for a vehicle you can afford

When I was looking at the new Nissan Frontiers in 2021, every single one - not matter which lot I looked - had at least a $10,000 Market Adjustment fee tagged onto them.
Posted on 10/31/24 at 3:07 pm to boxcarbarney
Everything had that in 2021 though to be fair. No one had anything to sell hardly.
In 2024, I don't know who's falling for that.

Completely unacceptable.
Provide the details or do not start the topic. what car ? what is the cost? what is the market adjustment?

Bro, dealers are literally renting empty lots to store new car surplus inventory right now.
If you want something super fancy, rare, or expensive then you may have to pay some nonsense fees.
If you want anything remotely common then dealers will likely be negotiating right now.
The Mercedes dealer near me has hundreds of cars parked in a spare lot at a shopping mall.

Some of these dealerships still think it's 2020-2021.
Exactly.
In 2021, right before Hurricane Ida, I totaled my SUV. While evacuated out of state (in a rental car), rode around and looked at replacements. You'd see the main sticker, then another smaller sticker from the dealer saying "market adjustment-- $5,000" or a similar number. They wouldn't budge off that.
Looked online to shop for a car, found what I wanted in Pensacola, was ready to go buy it but the dealership added a "special dealer package" on all their cars that included things like lifetime oil changes, free fluid top-offs whenever, etc. I told them I'd drive over and buy the car the next day for the price without the package, and I wasn't paying for that as they were in Pensacola and I was in Louisiana and could never use it. They said it was non-negotiable.
Luckily, found a dealer for basically the same car (only a different color) on the north shore who gave me a fair price and who didn't play such games.

People spending $140k on a pickup truck.

People also ran out to buy the foundation series cyber truck for over 100k, when there is going to be a later version in the 60k range.

If you have $140k to spend on a toy pickup truck you should be able to afford the fees associated with said purchase.

Sounds like they think you are a target for profit because you have specific options or extras you ordered.
You can just walk away. Unless the vehicle is unusually in demand they should want to sell it more than you need to buy it.
Typically those vehicles drop like a rock in value when they were hot the year or two before. Thinking of examples like the Cybertruck or Rivian vehicles.
