It’s a real adventure in UK countries.

It took me about fifteen seconds to adjust to shifting with my left hand.

Tacomas still have a manual option.
I believe the Bronco also has a manual option.

I'd have paid extra to have a stick shift in my truck. Did pay extra for stick shift in my car. It makes shitty commuter cars bearable to drive. As is often said, it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.

You can rent automatics overseas...it'll just cost you a lot more.

Right hand drive isn't that common. Really only former British colonies not in North America and some island countries. The vast majority of the world is left hand drive like us.

Gen X here and I love a manual. But I live a rural life. Would suck in constant traffic.
ETA: Plus I got to watch while my ex-wife fricked the shifter once upon a time.

My first three vehicles were all manual. Now, after having a standard transmission, I don't think I can ever go back.

There was a story out of NOLA awhile back where a carjacking was foiled when the thief discovered he didn’t know how to drive a stick.
It’s sad really. I learned on a standard, my brother learned on a standard, even my wife and her siblings learned on standards. One of those skills that seems like will one day pop back up as very important

You ever get stuck in a muddy hole with a standard versus automatic? I don’t think you have based off your comment.
Have you ever owned an automatic that you couldn't select the low gear on?
Everyone talks about the experience and all that, but no one buys them. If people did the car companies would sell them. Same reason the sedan is disappearing.

I'm Gen X. my first 3 vehicles were manual
my sister was also GenX and her first two were as well
my wife is Gen X her first car was manual
thinking back, lots of vehicles I rode in during my college years were manual.
I don't think manual trans died with Gen X. it was after that. at least in south Louisiana

My car is a 9 speed with option for auto or Manuel. I haven’t used manual yet. Might start

If it doesn't have 3 pedals, it isn't a manual. Basically every car made now has manual gear selection, but it is still an automatic transmission.

I had 3 manuals before I got my first automatic and I’m gen X barely. You want to see less accidents and people on the road, get rid of automatics. I would bet 50% of female drivers would be eliminated from driving right off the bat.

I don't ever recall traffic being much of a bother with a manual, but I haven't had one in years.

It used to be that manuals were quicker and got better mileage than automatics. Not anymore. While I agree that driving a stick is more fun, they get pretty tedious in stop-and-go traffic of a major metro area. I might have one in a fun weekend sports car, but will take the auto for my DD.

2019 was the last year for a manual in a Ram pickup.
2011 for a Ford pickup.
2008 for a GM pickup.
Only two trucks are offered with manual transmission in the US.
The Toyota Tacoma and the Jeep box-on-a-box truck. The Tacoma has to be special ordered and there's about a 5 month wait on them.
True story: I took mine to the Toyota dealership for 20K mile service last week, the service agent checking me in sits in the driver's seat. He quickly jumps out and yells over to another agent, "Yo Evan, I need you to come drive this stick."
He turns around with zero embarrassment and explains, "never have learned how to drive old school."

Both of my vehicles are manuals, they’re just a lot more enjoyable to drive. I don’t care if it’s slower, I’m not a professional driving a GT3 class car in the Le Mans series.
