Manual Transmissions A Thing Of The Past?

“ We know that the manual transmission is quickly leaving our world. What might feel like a bit more of a shock is that only one new car on the American market still has a 5-speed manual transmission.”
I bought my Mazda new in 2015 and have not been on a car lot since. I had no idea manual trans were becoming scarce.

Manual transmissions don't produce equal outcomes.

Misleading, it's because they come with more gears now. There's still a bunch of cars you can get with a manual. You probably have to order it, but they make them.

ETA Every new car you can still buy with a manual transmission

Most manuals are now 6 speeds and now 7 speeds are creeping in some higher end cars. They need the extra tall gears to hit EPA standards.

Some manufactures are trying to put manuals in EV's, there will always be some demand. I personally LOVE a manual.

Dual clutch automatics shift faster and that's what high end cars are utilizing.
I like stick shift. The only time I get to drive one is when I rent vehicles overseas.

You can thank the EPA emissions requirements for that. I have one vehicle with a 6 speed manual that I plan to keep for maybe forever.

Americans probably shite themselves when they go to rent cars overseas and see a stick shift in it.

Manuals really don't offer anything advantageous anymore except the experience of driving one. Granted electric vehicles have no transmissions at all.

2019 was the last year for a manual in a Ram pickup.
2011 for a Ford pickup.
2008 for a GM pickup.

It sucks

Gen x chose automatic nearly every single time when offered a choice. Manufacturers took the hint and stopped offering them.

Gen X here.

Go. frick. Yourself.

I've owned at least 7 manual transmission vehicles.

Including my current one. Wish I could get them all with a stick.
