Can't go wrong with public schools in Mandeville. Covington has some hit or miss public schools. Traffic is pretty bad in evenings everywhere so I wouldn't want to make the extra drive into Covington if you are coming from the Southshore.

Crime is pretty low in both but Mandeville is overall lower.

the older I get, the more I can see it.

it's quiet up there. people are friendly, schools are good. my best bud just bought a fkn mansion in covington for a decent price. I can feel that suburb life calling out to me

They're both great and have really cool little downtowns. Can't think of too many negatives.. I love it. They're old resort towns historically speaking.. Southshore folks would build summer homes here

Bruh shut your dirty whore mouth. West St Tammany is a grotesque trashy place with absolutely horrible schools, terrible traffic and a shitton of soccer mom Karen’s running around. Metairie or Slidell is a far better choice. Hell New Orleans East is cleaner and far safer than anything around Mandeville.

He was starting a thread every couple days a while back asking about different neighborhoods in Mandeville/Covington. We should've steered him to Slidell

I moved from Metairie to mandeville about 5 years ago. The best decision I could have made for my family. My kids love it over here. Traffic is no worse that Vets in Metairie. I have yet to blow my horn since living there. I could not say that on the southshore. I also commute to St. Rose.

Have you looked at Bogalusa yet. I hear that’s where all the cool kids are going.

I hear it smells lovely there, but no. I don't think so.

2 years new to the Northshore from Old Metairie.

Mandeville is what Madisonville aspires to be one day after the new town smell has worn off...

Covington is more hit or miss. Pick the neighborhoods with the gates. I love easy access to 190, I12, and the Causeway.

Yes, traffic is worse in Covington 10x from Noon-6pm. At the same time, I’m 3 minutes to every restaurant, grocery, retail or home repair outlet worth a damn inside of 20 miles. Fix your commute times if you can, and the everyday convenience will pay off.

PLENTY value in North Covington/almost Bogalusa/Abita Springs in the McMansion lake neighborhoods. 10+ year old developments with entry points in the low $200s. Beats the nearing $250-300k entry point for the same aged squarefootage in Madisonville.

Access to The Chimes has made my Covington purchase better than expected. I like the simple things.

School districts and commute. Mandeville is better in that regard, but they are both really nice places to raise a family. Crime, politics, etc is about the same and as good as you can ask for in LA

If I had to commute at all I would buy in Mandeville and not think twice. The commute home to Covington can suck. Stay south of I-12, some of which is still considered Covington

Covington used to be more country-type small town folks and was agriculture-based. Mandeville was always the bluebloods who didn't associate with the Covington folks. Waldheim or the Bush/Sun metroplex is where you want to be.

Here you come with your bullshite, was waiting for it LOL. You are wrong, yet again. I don't care how long your family has "been in St. Tammany."

For that commute:

South of I-12 and East of the Causeway is going to be your best bet. Some of that is technically Covington, some unincorporated St. Tammany (w/Mandeville address), some Mandeville proper.

Another check is to see if you and/or your family will want to be able to get to the Trace form your house without packing bikes up in a car. The ride from Mandeville to the Abita brewery makes for a good exercise/immediate reward day with no driving required.

Only thing I find amusing is in unincorporated St. Tammany trash pickup is private - so if you're working from home all day on a pickup day there's 35 different garbage trucks driving up/down the block.

Unless you are in the Mandeville school district, I do not think the advantages of the public schools are that significant. I really like the Country Club/Beau Chene neighborhoods because it puts you in the best public school system and you are really close to the causeway, 190, lake front, and madisonville area.

I'm east of 59 on 1088 and have no real issues... that being said all the house are sold up and there is no land left.... Weyerhaeuser owns it all. Keep to the southshore.

Yall always picking on Bogalusa. It's not that bad. Public schools are horrible but private is dirt cheap and we have a Catholic school that's part of the New Orleans Archdiocese. Yes if you live in town you might smell the mill, I rarely smell it at my house outside of town, and none of you would choose to live in town anyway. It's dirt cheap to live good here. Having said that, I can see why no one wants to move here. The aesthetics aren't pleasing.

Indeed

Covington has old money families whereas Mandeville is fairly well populated with more neuvo Kenner transplants who thing they’re big shots because they make 175,000 a year and live in a 4,000 sq foot house with a gate.

Mandeville has some old money families though but they’re just overshadowed by all of the transplants.

Mandeville was actually an old fishing town back 100 years ago up to the building of the causeway.

LOL he is so full of shite. He lives in Baton Rouge too. Covington has ALWAYS had a very strong New Orleans connection. It’s first Mardi Gras parade happened in 1879.

Tchefuncte Tiger - you’re an idiot and a fake. Please do not listen to this guy.
