What is the difference? Considering a move to lower St Tammany. Won't have to commute every day but 2-3 days a week to New Orleans. Found more, better houses in Covington in comparable neighborhoods.
Other than Mandeville being closer to the bridge, is there any real difference?

Traffic? Crime? Schools? Politics? Percentage of trashy people?

Can't figure it out.

If you’re sending kids to public high school, you don’t want to be in The Covington High District.

Covington has its small area of crime, not sure you can find one comparable in Mandeville .

Traffic sucks in both, unless you’re coming from Metairie in which case you will say what traffic.

If you have to ask just go to Covington.

In all seriousness I always tell people the same thing when considering the NS.

Stay East of the Tchefuncte, South of I-12, and West of Hwy 59 and it’s all gravy.

Mandeville >Covington. Don't ever forget that.

In reality it is all the same. Which side of I12 you are is the only difference.

Historically Pontchartrain and Tchefuncte were the most sought after public elementary and middle schools. Now all of them in the area are pretty great, Madisonville schools included.

Best area in the state to raise a family.

Was about to post this.

Some parts of unincorporated Covington are in the Fontainebleau High district and its a good school.

The closest thing is probably north of Florida and 2-3 blocks west of I-59, but even that may have been built up now.

I have relatives in both areas.

Schools: People always mention public schools but completely ignore private but THAT is the major difference. Covington has THE best by far. Mandeville kids come to Covington to go to the private schools! Public schools can be better in Mandeville but it depends. In my opinion, strive for private schooling at all costs but If you can’t afford private schools then do Mandeville. Watch out for drugs though.

Traffic: Mandeville has much worse traffic issues. Not even close.

Scenery: Mandeville has the lake which is incredibly beautiful so if you can afford to live on the lake, that would be my choice but flood insurance is astronomical since it flood a lot now days.

People: Covington is way more laid back. Mandeville has their beau chene people and they can be .......”persnickety” . Covington has no such people.

Nightlife: maybe better in Mandeville but Covington has the Southern Hotel and lots of stuff going on there so it just depends on what you want.

Outdoor activity: depends on what you want but I’d give the edge to Mandeville.

Housing; Mandeville has a lot of neighborhoods surrounding it. Lots of housing. Covington is less dense.

Crime: not an issue either place.

You are way off on this one. If coming from the causeway and you have to go north of I-12 during a busy time, being in Covington could add 20-30 minutes to the commute

Just stay the hell out of Madisonville. It is a crime infested shithole of scum and villainy. I would not recommend anyone moving there. Ever.

There were plenty of drugs at St. Paul's when I was there, though I will say they went to heroic lengths to try and do something about it. We had a literal narc show up on campus my junior year, some baby-faced deputy sheriff from Washington Parish or Livingston Parish or somewhere. He's was all up in everyone's faces, like "MAN! YOU KNOW WHAT WOULD HIT THE SPOT?? SOME DRUGS, MAN! BTW HAVE YOU HEARD THE PINK FLOYD YET?"
