Twelve HOAs in the Mandeville/Covington zip codes have a reciprocal agreement with The U.S. Ranger scout sniper school, and all but Money Hill now require candidates to be fluent in Spanish. The basic PFT reqs are 20 dead hang pull ups, 120 sit ups in 2 minutes, and a 3 mile run in under 19:30. Candidates without a college degree are required to pass the ASVAB and a battery of drug screens that take place randomly during the 20 month probationary period which starts the day a candidate completes their application and submits it by certified mail to the company commander of his unit.

old covington is as nice as anywhere, in my biased opinion. from old landing to downtown is a beautiful area to live. st pauls and ssa are right smack in the middle of the neighborhood.

That area is about as close to Old Metairie as you're going to come on the Northshore.

When I retire in a few years, I'll probably look to live close to Boston St. to be within walking distance of all the downtown restaurants and shops.

Commute time is big for me. I can get from Metairie to Mandeville or Mandeville to Slidell in as much time as it takes me to get from Mandeville to Madisonville or Covington alot of the time.

Just me mindful of where you're driving to and from and what your social life looks like because it plays a part for sure.

I’m curious about the “bad” public schools in Covington.

covington high traditionally draws from a much more rural area than mandeville high and even fontainebleau too. as mentioned earlier in the thread, there is also a large hood in cov that is in CHS's footprint. having said that, covington high is not a dumpster fire. i went to st pauls, but nearly everyone i knew that went to covington also went to college and most received degrees. as a public school in this state, it's an okay school. as a public school in cov/mandeville, it's probably at the bottom.

Covington used to be more country-type small town folks and was agriculture-based. Mandeville was always the bluebloods

You don't know much about the history of the area. It was the exact opposite.

I'm not the only one in this thread making jokes about people moving to the area. So what did I say any different from the others?

Haha I am not angry, you just come into every single Northshore thread and spread historical inaccuracies. Just trying to get the story straight.

I’m a Skipper from way back.
Edwin Edwards once landed his helicopter on the football field and spoke to an assembly.

Once they brought drug dogs in and went through the parking lot. Only vehicle dog alerted to was one of the coaches.

I think its more about the traffic than property values.

Mandeville= public school

Thats not always the case. When we lived in Covington, we were in Madisonville’s school district so it was the best of both worlds. If we could've stayed out there, we would have just sent our girls to Archbishop Hannan once they got to high school.

To the OP: I noticed you mentioned youd be commuting a few times a week to NOLA. I made that commute from Covington to NO M-F for 1.5 years and very rarely did I ever take the Causeway. I just drove 12 to 10 each day and it was a peaceful, easy drive where I didn't have to pay a toll, worry about if the bridge is closed, if there was a wreck, if causeway police were going to pull me over for going 62 in a 60, etc.

Simply put- no

I went to Covington 2 weeks ago and drove down hwy 22 from Lacombe. The trip from saia’s grocery up to Covington took 45 minutes at 5:45 pm. It should have taken 20 minutes at most.
The log jam by banner Ford was unbelievable.

Covington has traffic around the time that the schools get out and that’s about it. Most people are working at that time

Then you really dont know wtf you are doing. Would have been 10x easier to go 59 from Saias to 12 then on to 190. Dog pound rd even better.

You want to go into the heart of the beast and then complain, then i see why you prefer the dirty dirty DIRTY dell.
