In New Orleans when you randomly shoot at someone, they tend shoot back

quote:

The man who allegedly carjacked and killed a father picking up his child from a Mid-City day care center Tuesday night was found shot in the head a short time later on Interstate 10 in the stolen car, New Orleans police say.

Raymond Wells, 21, is in "extremely grave condition" at University Medical Center, according to deputy superintendent Nicholas Gernon. Wells is being watched by an armed guard. Should he recover from his injury, he will be booked into jail on a count of first-degree murder.

"It was a truly horrible scene and a horrible crime," Gernon said

Gernon said Wells was "up to something"— breaking into cars or engaged in other criminal activity in the 3500 block of Bienville Street at around 5:13 p.m. when he was spotted by some individuals, who he shot at, Gernon said. Those people weren't involved in the crime and are cooperating with police. Police are examining casings to determine whether anyone returned Wells' gunfire. Some vehicles were also shot, NOPD said.

Wells allegedly fled from Bienville to the rear of the First Grace United Methodist Church at 3401 Canal Street, where he carjacked and fatally shot the parent of a child attending Abeona House, according to the church.

The father who was murdered in a Mid-City parking lot Tuesday (Sept. 30) picking up his child from carpool died because our DA and judges coddle criminals. Do not talk to me about more gun control laws when current gun laws have no consequence.

The man who killed the father just got a suspended sentence and $592 fine four months ago for breaking multiple gun laws and trafficking drugs

He was also arrested and released in 2023 on a concealed weapon charge which he was on probation for when the next arrest occurred.

He was arrested in 2022 for Battery of a School teacher. He failed to appear in court several times and still received probation,

Who knows what is hidden in his juvenile record.

I cannot support any of the current frontrunners for Mayor because they EMBRACE rather than reject our DA.

Absolutely abhorrent that a father could get killed in a relatively decent area just picking up his kid from daycare. The culture had got to change in that city and the only way that can happen is with honesty about the shitty culture that is glamorized and allowed down there. That's long term.

In the short, if there was ever a city that needed national guard help this would be it. The mental prison you're in when you live in New Orleans makes any uneasy feeling of uniformed guards pale in comparison: having to look over your shoulder when parking your car, knowing you don't enjoy one of the great parks after a certain hour or alone, not being able to enjoy new developments like a greenway because you're constantly looking over your shoulder, or not being able to take a walk through the french quarter without anxiety of what could be around the corner. There is so much potential in that unique and vibrant city and we allow it to be killed by continued infestation of trash.

Divine forces have told us for centuries we shouldn't have a city there, but we keep building it back. Maybe we'll get the message one of these days.

When we were down for Mardi Gras this past year, the was NG all over because of the Bourbon Street attack. I honestly had never felt safer in the city.

Not sure how I feel about this. He definitely deserves to die and him dying now would eliminate any possibility of him ever getting out of prison, not to mention the taxpayer money wasted on housing him as an inmate for years of judicial process, appeals, etc. But part of me feels like he is getting off easy and he needs to suffer a little more.

This may be how you imagine New Orleans residents live, but it's not.

This story is absolutely bizarre - especially with the perpetrator being found on the highway with gun shot to the back of the head.

I wonder what the shady business kicking off this wild run actually was

This is so terrible.

DA's and judges across the country need to be held accountable for this kind of thing. Why do they get a pass? Cops have got to be pissed. Victims too.

I had to drive through that commotion.

There must have been 20 patrol cars there.

The word is in was in an altercation/gun battle a few streets over. Was running from someone and found the victim and stole the car.

It is a bit surprising he was pulled over on the interstate and not wrecked out. Almost as if someone got in the car with him.

We need to repeal the 8th amendment for that to happen. Until then, let him die.

The smart ones born here think like this; the transplants from the north usually don’t, at least not until they’ve been a victim.
