What the hell was that USM

McIvor absolutely cooked them
Easiest solution for the G5 problem
Posted by Jacobowitz on 12/23/25 at 9:16 am
Probably didn’t need another thread on this but here it goes
You can:
A) Lock them out entirely
B) Do a play in like the NCAA Tournament
Best solution would be to shrink the CFP to 4 teams like it used to be. That was the perfect number
But they seem hellbent on expansion to grab more money so i expect they’ll either squeeze the smaller conferences out of the field
or give them the last play-in spot to reward the #1 overall seed

You probably were completely unaware there was a bowl game being played right now
It’s just as terrible as you expect it would be

Georgia is not Tulane. Ole Miss will get clapped right out of the Superdome

Give JMU their credit for not giving up and taking what Oregon was giving them. They could've been like Tulane and just laid down and died.
They should be very proud of their team and season. They went to the other end of the country and gave it their best shot
Yeah I have no counter argument
Tulane couldn’t even cover in the biggest game in program history in a rematch against a team who lost half of their coaching staff
re: Talking heads were right - G5 doesn’t belong

Unfortunately I agree. Could definitely see one of those CFP bubble teams faring better against Pete Golding Ole Miss

I will still maintain that Tulane and JMU earned their playoff spots based on the current criteria, but the haters are correct. The group of 5 sucks arse
With the portal/ NIL I don’t think we’ll see a small program with a truly special team like Boise back in the day, Tulane a few years ago, UCF, etc. who have the horses to compete on a grand stage again

I still believe Tulane deserved to be there and earned that spot, but yes they don’t belong on the same field talent wise.
I wouldn’t be completely opposed to what you’re suggesting but you would need to bust up the FBS and have a full scale divorce

Tulane has a puncher’s chance, although an upset seems very unlikely
I doubt the James Madison game is close unfortunately

Do the Oklahoma players have money on the game? They are selling hard

For all the bitching about Tulane, they may be more competitive than Bama is right now
re: Rooting for Tulane…
Posted by Jacobowitz on 12/19/25 at 9:01 am to Hangover Haven
Snowball’s chance in hell, sure.
Tulane has a much better passing game than they did the first matchup. Retzlaff has improved a lot. The Wave offense should be able to score points this time
Ole Miss is still the better team and has superior athletes. That didn’t magically change over the last couple months
Tulane will have to play a perfect game and get some mistakes from Ole Miss IMO

This is good gesture giving back to the program which gave Jon Sumrall a platform to fulfill his dream of becoming an SEC head coach
He’s also finishing the season and not shitting on Tulane like some coaches have done in the past
Speaks to his character IMO

re: How do you think Will Hall is going to do at Tulane?

All you need to know about it is that Tulane released several days worth of damage control posts on FB trying to pump up Halls hire. Seems like everyone outside of the AD knew that hiring Hall would be bad for the program. I certainly did my part by commenting negatively on every Hall related Tulane post. They will be back to the Bob Toldeo era in less than 2 years.
Will Hall bombing at Tulane instantly wouldn’t be the worst outcome honestly
The donors would push Tulane to move on immediately and the AD would be let go. He isn’t the only obstacle, but a major one.
Next cycle won’t have 20 firings and Tulane will be one of the best open jobs. Could get back on track fast with a good hire.
Worst case scenario is gradual decline (6-7 wins) then plateau and crash out. Tulane is too patient and will tolerate this

Tulane is in a really good place relative to the G5 schools. It's easier to win at Tulane now. I expect some mean reversion in 2026, but we should still win 7-plus games next year.
7 wins would be pitiful with how weak the American is
I would hope Tulane shitcans the AD, moves on from Hall and performs a real coaching search if we backslide that much

Had some time to digest this other than the poor optics of the hire/ process
Hall seemed to be on a decent career trajectory before USM. If Tulane fans can memory hole his tenure there you feel better, although tough to overlook that.
Won’t be tasked with a major rebuild. He may find success with better staff decisions than he made at his last head coaching stint.
This is all just bargaining of course since the hire looks so bad. I’m somewhere in between he’s gonna nuke Tulane into the ground and he’ll keep them around where they have been.
I’m expecting some natural regression like Tulane likely would have had anyway, with the optimism Will Hall is still young enough to be hungry to win and land better job

They had to know with the money LSU has been spending and momentum from the Kiffin hire that Baker would be a fight and there was a chance he was leveraging them

The cheapness and anti-athletics culture within the administration always limits Tulane to sporadic, short term success. Before the PTB step in to level the program
I really think with their finances, recruiting blueprint etc. they could be elite on a consistent basis with proper vision and investment
TLDR: You can lead a horse to water but can’t force him to drink

Yes
They kept football going for a while. 4 years of winning is a long time for Tulane
They really do hate sports there and nuke every good program when it succeeds.
