"nicer area" of Bessemer
Brighton?
We grew up in Bluff Park. Spent more than my share of time in Bessemer. Guess it's possible that there are nicer areas now towards Lakeshore.

nah - im about 1/4 mile from the old Hospital - the neighborhood I am in was the original money area of Bessemer - is where all the doctors lived. worst we see here is people running the stop sign at the 4 way stop.

I grew up in Minnesota, and the most I remember falling in a few days was 37”. The funny thing was, it started on Halloween. Trick or treating in a blizzard was interesting to say the least.
Side note: coldest I experienced with wind chill was -63. That was one of the few times I remember school getting canceled because of weather.

Sounds like we could get 3-4 inches on top of the 10 we already have (and that shite isn't melting).
On the upside, paid a guy with a Bobcat to clear the driveway today. Dude did it for under $50 while the neighbor paid a landscaping group almost $300 to clear theirs. /winning

One of those midwesterns that can handle the snow

frick. That.
I hate the 100 degree heat summers but I wouldn’t want any part of that

100% is not from there.

Went outside in Jeans to hop on a plane and was one of my biggest regrets of my life up to that point

I'm trying to figure out if it was better to be in or out of the car and honestly I can't decide
Guess it depends on what was in the area the car was headed

Unless there is a giant cliff I would stay my arse in the car as opposed to getting run over by the next out of control vehicle while you try to run/skate away from it on ice

It takes a special kind of stupid to jump out of a car because it is sliding on ice. Potentially get run over by your own car or someone behind you.
Had she stayed in the car and hit the brakes it would have stopped when she hit the grass.

I'm on the Helena end up on Shades Crest, but still technically Bessemer. 2 inches and we aren't going anywhere.
Although I'm hoping we get 2 or more, we haven't had a good event since we moved out here on 20 acres. Would be fun.

2 inches of snow is not a lot to me - and my wife is from Colorado, so it is a laughable amount - but Bham, 2 inches of snow is system wide meltdown
Especially when it falls onto untreated roads and interstates and temperatures in the low 20s.
The issue with Snowmageddon was that the forecast called for sleet, freezing rain, and a thin strip of snow to fall across far south Alabama and south Georgia while Birmingham and Atlanta were forecasted to stay very cold but dry. The same system gave Mobile, Daphne, Fairhope, and Spanish Fort a major ice storm and the precip was only supposed to fall as far north as Montgomery.
The precip spread much further north though and gave Bham and Atlanta a quick burst of 2 to 3 inches into temps near 20 degrees that caused the snow to flash freeze onto the road surface. Throw in the hilly interstates and overpasses around Bham and Atlanta and what were already impossible driving conditions with the surprise element of people getting caught off guard by the busted forecast and it was a recipe for distaster.
