snow to flash freeze onto the road surface

Yep. That’s what many people outside the south didn’t understand. The ice on the roads was skating rink quality. Driving on it was close to impossible. It wasn’t like an inch or two of snow simply shut down the city.

Technically, there are some really nice homes along S Shades Crest Road that have a Bessemer mailing address.

And some of the models are actually shifting back to the north

Depends on the Low pressure system.

If it tracks further north, the snow moves north. If it moves south and allows more cold air to pipe in further south, the snow line belt is going to be moved more to the south.

I know - i was mainly meaning closer to the city center of Bessemer.

my wife has a job to where if we lose power or internet she has 30 to 45 mins to get to the company office - she said she will just call out and take the displinary points - it is not that either of us cannot drive in those conditions - we both have years of experience doing it - it is everyone else that has no clue that scares the shite out of me.

my concern is if something happens to my dad, it would be difficult for me to get to him and my mother.

Maybe I don’t pay enough attention to this like others do but I’ve been trying to keep up with the models and it seems they can’t get on the same page at all

The predictions are all over the place about this storm and expected snow totals

I don’t know what to believe

That's the common issue with Winter weather events in the Southeast. It almost always becomes a day of thing where "now casting" takes over.

exactly - they can largely nail severe weather, but the winter stuff is difficult.

when it comes to the winter stuff - I have always adopted the expect the worst approach

When should we expect BR school closures to be announced?

looks like Spann posted a new graphic on the WXblog - the 2-3 inch range for snow has backed down almost to downtown Bham now

I have enjoyed following some good meteorologists over the past few decades, but I believe Kirk Mellish (former weather chief at WSB in Atlanta) is the best in the business. His forecasts were far and away better and more accurate than TWC or any of the other big name weather channels ot sites.

Link below is his assessment of the incoming winter weather across the south. It's mostly centered on the Atlanta area, but he provided plenty of information to give an idea of what to expect along the entire swath affected. Good charts and maps here.

Georgia DOT is going to brine the roads tonight into the morning. They remember what happened 11 years ago.

It's been 7 years since we've had a measurable snow here in West Central Georgia so we are overdue. We average one every 4-5 years.

Looks like SC ( at least Columbia) is going to miss the good stuff.

Hopefully ice potential isn't too bad.
