It is foolish to only look at tax rates.

You also have to look at the tax base.

I do not give a frick what SCOTUS and Congress say, income tax is fricking bullshite and unconstitutional.

And lets be honest with ourselves while we're at it; ALL taxes need to be slashed 90% AT LEAST. frick the government.

I prefer whatever tax hits a majority of the citizens. Property tax penalizes you for investing in your community... not a fan.

I also dont have faith in your cucktard politicians to actually do anything beneficial for us peasants.

This is one of La's biggest voting shams in recent history. And that's saying alot!

The amount of personal income tax paid by each individual will not change by any significant amount compared to the last couple of years,
but the people of this state just locked in a tax INCREASE due to the elimination of the Federal Income tax deduction.

Unlike the Federal Govt, the states are required to balance their budget. Which means if by any luck our income tax rates were to truly be cut, other taxes would be raised to compensate. Unless, of course, spending would also be cut - which will NEVER happen.

But you can be sure this sound bite will be plastered on every re-election ad in upcoming years.

Tell me about: Texas, Wyoming, and Tennessee.
And... Florida, I guess.

The only reason it isn’t unconstitutional is because it was put in the Constitution.

Still 4.25% too high now that Mississippi is going to a zero income state joining Texas, Tennessee, & Florida.

The bridge has been needed for longer but some attempts to handle it hamstrung things.

Roemer attempted to build a bridge during his time as Governor.

His methods of funding it generally involved fricking over state employees for the purpose of creating a budget surplus he could use to pay for the bridge. They sued and won because he violated the law in how he did it. Can’t withhold raises claiming lack of funds then use those funds to build a bridge. There was also frickery with paychecks being delayed to move an entire pay period into a different fiscal year, which got them zapped for NSFs and other problems caused by the state not paying on time.

Just think if more people had personal income and others income levels increased, then the personal income tax rate should go down (all things equal)

Better yet, if I were king, if a company/corporation added a job, they would pay less commensurate corporate tax. Everyone wins jobs are created.

Aim tax to the desired outcome and scale it in a way that incentivizes said outcome

This chit aint that hard.

OK, now take into account all other taxes paid by people in LA.

We have some of the highest sales taxes in the nation.

Correct, Louisiana has the second-highest total state/local tax rate in the country.

10% sales tax is ridiculous.

I agree with this but LA has the 19th highest total tax burden in the country. Pretty sad for what we get in return.

Even this is a bad description, because LA runs so much more spending through Baton Rouge than other states do through their capitals.

Our state burden is 19th but our local burden is very low.

Think of Texas. Their state burden is low... but their local burden is higher due to property taxes.

Overall... our combined state and local tax burden ranks in the 40s. Granted... it's still a waste of money compared to value rec'd.

I'm for it, it's less complex and less prone to shortfalls but it isn't a tax "cut."

What we did was "tax simplification" not "tax reduction".

It's still progress and a good thing. But... it's not a tax cut. OP's article is misleading.

I'd take a 3% income tax over a 2% property tax any day. I make too much money and my house is too big
