I'm for it, it's less complex and less prone to shortfalls but it isn't a tax "cut."

Nothing in the article or in the open mentions "tax cut".

It’s amazing how everywhere you turn there has to be equality and equity or you get cancelled.

But in taxation, you are required to be treated different based on what you were able to make. And the more successful you become, the more you get punished.

Where’s the equity and inclusion in taxation?

I really believe taxation without representation was a better system than this one.

The entire thing is misleading... as evidenced by this thread.

No one should give two craps what our marginal tax rate is.

Tell me what parentage of my income is paid to state and local governments in total taxes.

I agree with this but LA has the 19th highest total tax burden in the country. Pretty sad for what we get in return.

Compare our corporate tax rate to what individuals pay in taxes. Then compare to other states. The legislature bends the knee to Unions (business Unions).

I don’t like taxes more than anyone else, but if you want good schools or good roads or good public services, you have to pay for them. We don’t really want to pay for them (see the poster above who thinks taxation is unconstitutional ).

We pay out the arse in terms of state/local taxes and get absolutely nothing of value in return

What we did was "tax simplification"

"Simplification" has NOTHING to do with the personal income tax "reform" that just passed and has everything to do with maintaining increased revenues.

The majority of filers pay someone else to do their taxes and thus don't give a darn about simplification.

Most other "DIY" filers, along with paid tax preparers use software to do taxes.
Federal tax deductions for state taxes are pulled from the Fed tax forms automatically for La.

Buuuuuuuuut, so long to a shitton of deductions.

Have you seen all the check off boxes to donate a portion of your refund to?

One year when I filed my taxes using the Louisiana department of revenue’s site, there must have been 3-5 pages of options to donate a just portion of your refund to from Wildlife funds to coastal restoration. It is state created slush funds to help some legislators.
