For some of yall that don't know, Louisiana implemented Mississippi's reading curriculum that teaches the original phonics based reading curriculum.

In just a couple of years, the state already has the nation's highest reading growth from year to year.

I have a 1st grader, so I imagine she is in the midst of this. I am impressed with how well she can read. I don't remember learning to read as early as she has.

Same. We also have a first grader and she's reading really well. We've started phonics with her two younger sisters as well to get them a head start on reading and they're doing great with letter recognition and sounds. Can't believe we ever moved away from phonics-based learning.

Does it cost more to teach phonics than whatever bullshite method you leftist wackos were pushing as an alternative?

I didn't see phonics mentioned in the article. Assuming you are correct and I have no basis to say you aren't being I'm ignorant on the subject, what was the process that was in place beforehand?

I learned how to read using phonics in the early 70s. I was a great reader at an early age.

These people just overthink things and get away from tried-and-true methods.

Seems they took something that MS did and worked well.

I don't believe that.

Jokes on us, exposre to reading should not be first approached in the classroom, it should be taught at home.

My girlfriend teaches ELA to 3rd graders in Abbeville; 6/36 students are reading at a 3rd grade level. 10 cannot read at all.

Beats me. I know the original move AWAY from phonics was some leftist bullshite, though.

They’ve overcomplicated learning for these kids. Studying & doing homework each night with my 3rd grader has made me realize that.

Who would have thought, the way we did things 30 years ago actually works. Maybe we should do the same for math.

And while we are at it clean house of the folks who were dumb enough to think phonics didn't work.

My kindergartner is in phonics based education and reads crap to me every night.

This is a step in the right direction.

My mom and dad made me use the phonics system growing up.
