Louisiana’s number one export is college degrees. But at least the state taxpayers foot the bill for them first.

We moved back in 2014, because hubs parent's were 85 and "they could die any day". We relocated back to his old office and his Texas salary came along for the ride. We were doing great. Then his company closed the Baton Rouge office. He struggled to find a job that paid half of what he was making, we had kids at LSU so we sucked it up.
His parents are still alive at 97, by the way.
I am ready to go.

(5) making sure trial lawyer buddies can keep pillaging on business that are still in the state

I'm no fan of the guy, but the above are silly criticisms.

Moved out of Louisiana to Beaumont in '21.. about to try to do a seniority swap with my job and move back home to CenLa because i want to be around mine and my wife's family. It's hard getting back to visit our parents and i want the kids to really know their grandparents. Besides every couple of weeks during hunting season I'm driving to Cenla to spend 4 days at a time hunting with the kids and my dad. Just a lot of running. The kids really enjoy huntingwith their grandpa and want to live out in the country. More homesick than anything since being gone from CenLa since 2012.

I don't live in Houston, about 200 miles from it. That said Houston is still better than the best Louisiana has to offer in every measurable category.

i'll never leave, b/c of our pharmacies, but honestly, i can't blame anyone for leaving if they have the chance... high insurance rates, housing isn't the most affordable, stagnant wages, idiotic political "leaders"... there's a lot to not like, so i get it, even if i never leave myself

We lead the nation in single parent households.
I tell my kids routinely. Do not stay here for me and mom. If you leave and want to come back fine. But go where there is opportunity. My primary motivation for traveling a couple times a year while they are in school is so they know what the rest of the country looks like.
Divorced dad of 2 here. One is 15 and the other is 13. I’m almost at the point of getting the frick out here despite their age. I don’t really want to because they’re still young, but it’s fast becoming an insufferable situation with their mom and the influence she has on them. I’m not going to leave them, but if the opportunity comes and they’re a little closer to 18 I’m getting the hell out of here.
My daughter (the 13yo) has mentioned she wants to be a pediatric oncologist, but insists she doesn’t want to leave La and I keep trying to tell there is zero good reason for her to stay and that she needs to explore the world because La is not nearly as awesome as she thinks it is.
She’s smart for her age, but as one would imagine, has very little concept of the real world. Hopefully she sees the light and gets out of here

It’s the most peculiar thing, all the posters on here having to pat each other on the backs so they feel good about moving.

According to recent Atlas Van Lines studies (late 2024/early 2025 data), Louisiana was a top outbound state (losing residents), while Arkansas, Idaho, and North Carolina were top inbound states, gaining residents.
Of the ones who moved to Arkansas, 38% went to Bentonville. The NW Arkansas area is beautiful, clean, full of good restaurants, has well maintained and litter-free highways, and the parks and trail systems are first class. The only problem is it’s growing like crazy, so houses are getting expensive.
Arkansas is as full of uneducated, poor arse people as Louisiana, yet they are whipping our arse in so many areas.
They do need to finish their section of I-49 from Texarkana to Fort Smith.

The problem is family is here and being close to our parents is important. Plus LA is everything we’ve ever known and do like the Louisiana culture - I’m also naive in what other places have to offer. So just have to make the best of what we have, and pay the price.
It’s all about priorities. You could get us away from our families. I would choose 10 times out of 10 to be around either mine or my wife’s family doesn’t matter what other “better” places there are to live. That’s why we take vacations so we can see whatever it is we want to see.

I left that shithole after 48 years in 2019 and never regretted it. My quality of life has improved in every imaginable way.

I moved from slidell to Petal and now reside in Oakgrove in hattiesburg and love it. It took getting use to the people etc. But it has grown on me and i love it. When i go back home im reminded its not home anymore. Ever since Katrina happened its just different.
