I know this is a running joke, but the working Louisiannian deserves better. I knew alot of great people there, but the state is so badly managed that we left at the first opportunity.

I stayed around for 10 years thinking things would improve or I could help out but I realized it was self inflicted. Talk to an average voter for 15 minutes and you will see why.

Chances are you'll hear things like
"He's one of us"
"I know his family and they good people"
"I used to hunt with his brother in law"
"His mom taught me in the second grade"

Not their economic plans or their management experience.

People may leave Louisiana, but for the people who stay, your Governor is working hard for you:

(1) Bringing tigers from Florida to LSU games.

(2) Trying to eliminate scholarships for LSU athletes who don't participate in the National Anthem even if their team has not participated in the National Anthem for decades.

(3) Making sure LSU football does not commit to eight-figure, multiple-year head coach contracts.

Population is going down in places you don't want to live.

Lafayette, Mand/Cov, St Francisville etc. All have increasing pops.

I don't know why anyone would live with that weather and culture.

Yeah...Best Stop over the past two years has opened locations in Katy and Baytown.

HEB in the Houston area also has a good selection of Cajun ingredients if you want to cook anything. I can pretty much get anything except for specialty items but I usually drive to Lafayette every 2 months to help my mom with stuff and I always make a point of stopping in Scott on the way out and stocking up on stuff.

I left in 2016 and returned in 2018. My two older daughters graduated from college, got married and stayed. Youngest graduated, moved to Austin and now lives in Brooklyn. She loves it and makes a whole lot more money than the other two.

Youngest has more ambition and big cities are where the opportunity is located. She could never get a similar job here in Louisiana where the pay is lower because they can pay shite and people will work for it.

GOOD. More need to leave. I love living in BFE with my swamp land in Avoyelles. It's cheap, quite and still traditional.

(4) Suing the businesses that are still here
(5) Chasing the remaining O&G industry to Texas

Jobs are not keeping us in state, so the wife and I could move anywhere within the US that we’d like.

The problem is family is here and being close to our parents is important. Plus LA is everything we’ve ever known and do like the Louisiana culture - I’m also naive in what other places have to offer.

So just have to make the best of what we have, and pay the price.

This.
Not even sure I want my kid to go to LSU.
He's six, and loves the Tigers, but unless things change in BR/LSU direction, he will not be attending.

West Virginia and Wyoming were the only states losing more occupants per year than Louisiana.

Anyone have a link for the data that is used to determine this, I'd like to check all of the states.

So in other words, this state has like 3 desirable areas to live. New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Monroe, Shreveport, Alexandria...all crapholes.

The drain on the State from nonproductive residents is incredible.

Great people here, intelligent, hard-working, and fun, but the non-prods are like leeches.

Of those places I’ve only lived in BR and can confirm it sucks. I’ve been to all the rest of those places, and as a visitor I saw nothing that would encourage me to stay long term.

But those places are hubs for lots of jobs. The areas immediately around those cities are growing because the ppl are moving out but staying close.

As bad as LA is ran as a state BR has been worse. Those ppl are moving to Prairieville, Gonzales and Livingston Parish.

But ultimately some are choosing to leave our beloved state that offers very little (good) to those that choose to stay.
