Hear, hear!
Vive la Louisiane!

For real it’s def something worth fighting for. The rest of the US with a few exceptions (and maybe none comparable to Louisiana) is incredibly homogenized. The state’s food/culture is used on this site as derision, but there have definitely been wars fought over less. I think it’s at least worth sticking around to volunteer/vote/fix.

Complaining about our issues on this site certainly draws attention to an issue, but getting involved in the community and making an effort to resolve the issues are the only way we're going to prevail.

what have you done in the last 6 months to help out?

I actually like living in New Orleans and Louisiana. Most of y’all make it out to be much worse than it actually is.

This site is actually one of the most negative places I’ve ever encountered. Seems self-feeding. My guess is the people actually enjoying life here are doing just that and not trawling this site, whereas the people who don’t know how to enjoy what’s unique in Louisiana (i.e. they drink Michelobs at Twin Peaks) have to pass the time by getting on a bitchy message board

Nb4 “reeee you’re on the message board too”

It's a lost cause, best chance is to control certain parishes.

It's like taking a bucket to empty the gulf at the moment tho. So long as politicians stay in office and keep having tax dollars to spend they'll never tackle or even acknowledge the real issues dragging this state towards the point of no return

Dude, you know how many people do just this and clean streets, roads, waterways, etc? And the same shitheads who trashed it up the first time trash it up again. All your rah rah shite goes out the window when you have to combat society’s shitheads AND an inept, corrupt government that doesn’t do anything to support its responsible citizens.
Louisiana is the next Detroit. It’s a lost cause that can’t be salvaged. A tear-down. Tear it down and rebuild it if you must, but you can’t rehab it like an old home at this point.

I agree with everything you are saying but you have no hope of success if your leadership is corrupt. The blind people of the state keep electing the same leaders because of the (D) or (R) in front of their name or because they are hoping for a personal favor.

Louisiana has always been fricked up. At least as far back as Huey Long. I am old enough to remember the 1970s and the graft and corruption never change. I've grudgingly accepted the obvious. It is just who Louisiana is.

The first step to real change has to be calling a constitutional convention for the purpose of framing a new state constitution and blowing up the current one (ETA: aside from the existing declaration of rights in Article I)

Do you feel confident that this group of Legislators could come up with a solid State Constitution?

There are constant threads here about how terrible Baton Rouge and Louisiana overall can be.

I bet most Of these negative OP’s will still be negative while living in another state, but will fly the LSU flag 24/7; fly a Mardi Gras flag and wear their Mardi Gras shirt; complain about the cuisine and no crawfish and still be apathetic in the other places.
