Yeah and that one seems like an outlier based on trends. Maybe a backlog somewhere. New cases seems to have hit a plateau. Vents looking great. Death stats lag, but we knew that already. That number is more of an indictment of where we were a couple weeks ago, not where we are now.

Still seem to be at a peak or starting to come down. Just hope that hospitalized number looks better tomorrow.

We know these numbers aren’t real time, but an increase in deaths will generally mean a decrease in vent usage. Looks like less people are requiring vents so when someone on one dies, there isn’t a “new” person getting put on one.



The hospitalization number isn’t good, but vent usage dropping is very good

I’m wondering if the extremely low hospital numbers we’ve seen lately was due to poor reporting and they finally caught up

but the positive news is that there are not a bunch of people waiting to immediately get on those now free vents

Probably strongly correlated, but as another poster suggested, it's encouraging that all the new cases (and the jump in hospitalized numbers) didn't offset the deaths. My positive spin is that treatment and early detection has gotten better, so we have the older cases dying, but the newer ones have much better outlooks and thus not replacing the older ones on the vents and we're getting better recovery rates.

If we were still on the growth side of the peak, we would still be seeing increases in ventilation because serious cases would more than replace deaths.

In part, yes. If the data were 100%, completely accurate, then the # of people that required vents who didn't on the previous day is 26. 26 that went on to vents - 70 that passed away = net -44 requiring vents.

That's almost certainly a good sign - the raw #'s of people who were getting moved to vents absent deaths was a lot higher than 26 per day the previous week. It looks like daily intubation is down quite a bit from 5 - 10 days ago.
