My initial post of that thread was edited. I originally had lots of gifs of the people getting sick and dying in the streets. And I originally titled it "People are dropping dead in the streets of Wuhan" or something to that effect.

At the top of page 2 on that thread I called it a lab leak.

Which never really was that big of a leap.
We knew there was a lab there testing everything and manipulating stuff and a history of poor precautions too
It would be like if a bad outbreak of some disease happened in Emory in Atlanta outside the CDC.
But there’s no room for context and logical thinking that the place with the sketchy lab in a country of bad intentions would knowingly or unknowingly release it to the world
All while letting international flights come and go but welding people in their homes and destroying roads to keep it from spreading in China
It’s just wild

Maybe, but there was a point pretty early on where we understood the virus. (And the Fauci Diary releases show that it was no where near as bad as we were lead to believe). But petty tyrants decided to close businesses and keep children masked anyway, and the Facebook Karens rejoiced as they wagged their fingers and scolded everyone else.
Add to that the constantly moving goalposts where “two weeks to flatten the curve” became “hospitalizations are too high” which was then replaced by “cases” as the metric to reopen the country.
Now we have people acting like lockdowns never happened. Like the government didn’t send SWAT teams after people walking in the wilderness by themselves.
“Lockdowns? What do you mean? You mean the two weeks we got to stay home and watch Tiger King?”
And then our government tried to force everyone who wanted to work and provide for their families to take a vaccine that they didn’t want and didn’t need.

What’s lost on a lot of people is how vital it was to keep the numbers and goal posts shifting so that mail in ballots could be utilized en masse

I think hindsight is affecting this take a bit. On 3/9/20, not enough time had passed to rule out enough variables. The data you referenced shoud have been used to end the quarantine sooner, but using just that in early March isn't enough. Sweden still shut down schools on March 19th, and they we're among the most objective of any country.

Covid shot arguments aside, the early forms of that virus before it mutating to be more contagious and less deadly (as viruses do), was killing and severely sickening a lot of people with comorbidities like obesity, heart/lung conditions, and just old age.
I wasn't worried about anyone who didn't check those boxes, but I definitely steered clear of my elderly in-laws because I was out and about trying to live life as normally as I could. That's what we all should've done. Isolate the people who are at-risk.
Those people, and just early on, had a lot of reason to be scared. The rest of us were just caught in the political shitstorm and tsunami of misinformation.
I work in healthcare and was watching live national data dashboards through work and the average age of severe illness and death was very high. And a vast majority of the rest had something else compounding the virus. They just brushed over that for a long time.

I do know a couple younger people that still can't smell very well though and one that can't taste much. That would suck
I'm sure I've had COVID several times, I just never got tested. When I'm sick with anything and think I could be contagious, I stay home like a normal person.
