We would be in a better place had we listened to those who said to take precautions for those with pre-existing conditions and the elderly, but those with reasonable takes were shutdown.

“A lot of doctors at the time and today are dumb and should not be trusted”.
A defining characteristic of Drs. is that they have exceptional memories and ability to regurgitate what they have been taught.Outside of the surgical specialties very few have critical thinking skills. They’re sheeple with M.D.
behind their name,they go with the consensus and most don’t question it.
It’s worse now since so many are employees of hospitals and private equity firms.They are dictated to as how they are practice medicine,they comply or they’re shown the door.
One reason why people went along with the Covid debacle is that most people have unrealistic faith in Drs and accept what they say as gospel.
The study of the history of medicine will change one’s mind on that.
Semmelweis(the father of handwashing) was driven into a mental institution
by the medical establishment.
Bloodletting to remove the bad humours was mainstream medicine at one time.
Dr. Barry Marshall(discovered h.pylori) faced calls to have his speciality credentials revoked.The dogma was that bacteria couldn’t live in the acid environment of the stomach.
I could go on for pages about the things I learned that turned out to be wrong and in some cases harmful.

FWIW, this has been great for me. Got refunded a ton of of points for some flights and really cheap Red Sox tickets next month.
I see some here still wearing masks in cars by themselves. The handling and reaction to Covid is probably the biggest disappointment in my life.

The thing that jumps out at me from skimming a few dozen pages of that thread is that if a real killer disease appears in the human population, we won’t be able to stop it. We can’t stop it.

I never did get to go. Was pretty upsetting.
Another insane story I have is how daycares remained open but summer camps had to be canceled.
We live in a golf community. My son who was 7 at the time would go to random camps throughout the summer in BR. Those were all shut down for “safety” but parents still had to work. Our local club started a day camp so the local kids could be outside and around others their age. A woman across the street saw kids playing on the tennis courts together, called the cops and got it shut down. Her exact words were that the club was trying to kill us all and us parents should be ashamed of ourselves. She was so proud of herself.
The result was many kids being sent to indoor daycares that were overrun and germ-infested with nearly all activity indoors with them crammed closely together. According to this neighborhood Karen, that was safer because the government said it was safer. No logic. No critical thinking. No real concern for the mental health of the kids.

They weren’t forced. No way would my minor child have been given that shot. Adult child? That’s their decision to do or not. Mine were smart and knew better.

That’ll be the main lasting effect, unfortunately.
