Here’s my thing with motorcyclists…
They have all these safety campaigns, slogans, signs, bumper stickers… watch for bikers and all that.
And these frickers drive like maniacs.
Want me to care about you, drive like a normal.

Literally about 97% of motorcycle riders you see these days are super old and/or very obese.

many states have laws written to allow motorcycles to pass in the middle during a sustained traffic stop. Got to do it carefully however.
Freaks me out (even though I should be used to it) when I am stopped in traffic in a state that allows lane splitting.

A few weeks ago I saw EMS giving CPR to a motorcyclist who tried that at the Airline and Jeff Hwy overpass. He was DOA. FAFO.

a little research , un hindered lane splitting allowed only in California. About 4-5 states will allow moving up when traffic is fully stopped.
texas does not allow either

My concern with filtering isn’t that they are doing it; it’s that they are relying heavily on others to not do something stupid. Even when it is legal, that doesn’t mean drivers are pay attention to them doing it. One open door or trying to change lanes (if there’s an opening by chance in stalled traffic) could be fatal.
Coincidentally, the logic for filtering is that most motorcycle accidents are caused by a car rear ending a stopped motorcycle.

That goes into my overall aversion to motorcycles. With their vehicle having little in the way of inherent safety, they are almost entirely reliant on other drivers.

Well, no one drives a motorcycle. They ride them.

These two assholes (not together mind you) decide that it’s appropriate for them to go between all the cars right in the middle of the road and pass everybody
What state are you in and is lane filtering legal? That is what that is called and is very legal and very safe in several states.

The risk doesn't seem worth it.
There is no risk to it that is greater than just being on the road.

Couldn’t tell you specifically, but odds are it will happen in stalled traffic. E.g. ole naw deciding to spit out his dip. Just saying it ain’t with it to me to count on stuff like that never happening because the law says I’m in the right.

In California, lane splitting is limited to 15 mph faster than traffic up to 30mph total speed.
Problems happen when traffic is stop and go and motorcycles lane split at 60.

considering this is a louisiana based board, im going to assume it is louisiana, where, guess what, it is HIGHLY illegal.
No, lane splitting and lane filtering are strictly illegal in Louisiana. The law treats both practices as traffic violations under the Louisiana State Legislature RS 32:191.1, which explicitly states that no person shall operate a motorcycle between lanes of traffic or between adjacent rows of vehicles.Key Rules for Louisiana RidersNo Exception for Stopped Traffic: Unlike states with lane filtering, you cannot ride between cars to get to the front of the line at red lights or in gridlock.Lane Sharing: You are entitled to the full width of a traffic lane. A car cannot try to squeeze past you in your lane, and you cannot squeeze past a car.Riding Abreast: Motorcyclists are legally allowed to ride two abreast (side-by-side) within a single traffic lane.Penalties: Getting caught "white lining" or splitting lanes can result in a fine of up to $200, up to 90 days in jail, and points on your license. It also heavily penalizes you in insurance liability if an accident occurs.

I don’t mind motorcycles easing between cars when traffic is jammed up and they just need to pass. Never bothered me. Now if they scraped my door or fender as they eased by, then I’d be pissed

I don’t pay motorcyclists any mind because 95% are basically like door-to-door solicitors. They pop up, annoy you, then go on and live inconsequential lives.
