re: Upstate NY man receives ICE warning about social media posts
Posted by ummagumma on 7/7/26 at 11:24 am to Robin Masters
So, when was this guy’s rights actually violated or infringed upon? He was skirting a fine line and got called out on it. He wasn’t arrested or otherwise inconvenienced in any capacity. He suffered no harm or consequence that I can see. He can continue doing what he was doing at his own choice.
But threatening actions and behaviors are not defined by the guy doing it, or by random biased spectators. Isn’t it what a reasonable person may infer? And if he keeps that kind of repeated communication up, then I can easily see it crossing over the threshold, thus the warning.

That’s a curious take.
Stoops started slow for a couple years, then he went 7-1 against SC in 8 straight years during his heyday, then started losing again. Also went 7-1 against Missouri in 8 straight years.
Not all that curious, really.

I oddly thought this was going to be about Mark Stoops
I thought the same thing, because beating SC and Missouri every year for a while is what made him. Then he stopped doing it and was essentially shown the door.

he’s an idiot troll. But, be honest, we’d probably root against the women if Rapinoe was on the pitch today.
Rapinoe was an anti-American player and Feminist who openly mocked and denounced the very country she was supposed to represent.
Trump is a president standing up for our country and using his position as much as possible to benefit our country because we elected him to do just that.

Yeah I cannot think of a case like this, red card being overturned, if it has happened
It wasn’t overturned I don’t believe…just suspended for probationary type period.
And good for Trump for standing up for his country. Jesus…isn’t this what a president should do? We didn’t become a country by asking permission and being polite. If Trump threw his weight around to right a wrong, then I say hell yeah.

Well, Coligny is where the trashy element usually goes to on Hilton Head, but that is still a fairly calm and middle class area. Coligny is basically 4 square blocks of a fairly nice Myrtle Beach.

tigerdroppings full of people making big money seems like according to this thread
It’s actually fairly simple. I’m an average middle class American. I live below my means. I have 24% income going into retirement. I have a brokerage account. I have another set amount of my income going to a savings account.
Once you learn to live at a certain level, the world has a way of opening up.
Hell no. America was born with rockets red glare and bombs bursting in air.
Our flag was still there…because we weren’t a bunch of pussies worried about melody and harmony and how singable our national anthem is.
You want a singable anthem, move to Canada, you flipping hoser.

re: How much cash do you keep in your checking account

2-4k in checking - which easily covers normal day to day.
50kish in savings
Everything else in brokerage and retirement
50k in savings might be a bit much, but you never know when you need easy and fast access. And if you’re worried about the ROI on an extra 20-30k, well that’s on you.

I’m adult enough to admit, in hindsight, I came in aggressively hot. What happened was tragic. I don’t wish that on any parent.
But I also have extreme aversion to placing blame and negligence claims with these kinds of events. We're not talking about being trapped in a burning building because of blocked fire exits. This was not the NYC Shirtwaist Fire event.
It was an act of nature, in nature. A once in a generation weather event and the result was tragic. It does appear the camp was not prepared for such an event and some decisions in the moment by the camp were not the best. However, that really doesn’t change my view all that much. The parents are lashing out, the politicians are placating because they have to, and what was once a generational joy for kids and parents alike, is no more.

I feel more patriotic when my neighbors fly the flag than when I do.

Bottom line…if you love your kid unconditionally and make them a priority, everything will take care of itself.
Make no mistake, you will likely worry excessively over every single detail of their lives. Even over the most trivial of things. Most of the time, after the fact, they’ll make you feel silly for worrying in the first place. And you’ll be proud of them. Eventually the pride overtakes the worry…and that is a powerful thing.

re: If so inclined, pls send up a prayer for Camp Mystic / TX Hill Country flood victims
Posted by ummagumma on 7/2/26 at 5:02 pm to Everyday Is Saturday
Last week, literally less than 20 miles from my home, 4 people died in Richmond Kentucky due to extremely rare flooding from heavy rain. The whole state had advanced warning of the rain and flooding potential. Who is negligent in their death? Or does that truly count as an act of god?

In other words, you are making an assumption based on your irrelevant past experience which may or may not be reality.
I get that to a certain extent…but I said I had to research what actually happened. I do not doubt their grief…but I do not favor lashing out, suing, and placing additional grief on the nearest human money source over an act of god because their grief says someone has to be responsible.
