Legality of Banning Cash Payments

I know it's been brought up here before but I wanted to bring it up again.
It was less than a decade ago where there were major fights, including laws in cities such as NYC, that mandated that cash has to be accepted at businesses. It has long been established that cash is legal tender.
Yet more and more cash is essentially being banned. It's been the case at NFL stadiums and NHL arenas for awhile (I haven't been to an NBA or MLB game in years but I'm sure it's the same), but at least they would typically have one concession that was cash or a cash ATM that would give you a debit card to use at the games.
But more and more they are trying to essentially outlaw cash. Many small businesses now do not allow cash. Hotels technically allow cash, but you still have to put a credit card on file for incidentals/damages. Cruise ships are all cashless.
I bring this up because I just scheduled a doctors appointment, and even while scheduling, they bring up that cash payments are not accepted.
I know why they are doing it (a cashless society destroyed anonymity and lets them know pretty much everything about you and is just another way of tracking you) and honestly, most of the time I pay with a credit card anyway to get cash back. But how has this become so widespread and legal in just the last decade? Is it not legally required anymore that businesses have to accept cash as legal tender?

Cash is legal tender means that the value of the cash dollar is guaranteed by the government. It means the government recognizes it for the value and not just a piece of paper.
It has NOTHING to do with mandating a business or a government office must accept cash.

So you want government regulating business even more?
If you dont like a cashless business then dont give them business

I am all for going cashless. Tap to pay has been so much easier. Also, as someone who can use a credit card responsibly for the points, its even better.

No one should be able to force you not to use cash, if that's how you want to pay.
I use almost only credit cards, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't be able to use cash if I want to.

I agree. Again I mostly use a credit card to get the points and pay it off each month. But I don't like the idea of forcing people to use credit cards to pay for regular purchases.
And yes, I think this is one of the few cases where government is needed. I think it should be illegal for any company (or at least any company over a certain size) to not accept cash. All companies should be forced to accept cash.

I can throw that right back at you. You're so against government mandating what most Americans would agree with, that Companies should be legally required to accept cash or at least a cash equivalent (Zelle, ACH charge, etc.).
I get why the Companies want to do it. But I don't buy the "if you don't like a cashless business then don't give them business". That's exactly how a lot of Americans get shut out of major parts of the American economy. That's exactly how you get a forced cashless society.
But yet you're okay with daddy government knowing your every single move and every single purchase. Talk about hypocritical.

It isn't just big sports venues. I've seen restaurants do this as well. Concert venues, music festivals, and even kids sports. I was at a basketball game at a high school a few years back watching my nephew play and it was cashless. Many other high schools where my oldest ran track meets were that way too. It isn't just about the business not wanting to accept it, it is also to cut down on your parent volunteers running the concessions and selling tickets for entry slipping a few bills in their pocket.

I'm ok with a business being cashless. However, if you are going to force me to use a credit card, do not pass the processing fee along to the customer.
Went to a retirement party at a local brewpub a couple of months ago and they were card only, but then added on the processing fee.

Legal tender is required to be accepted for a debt. Purchasing something is not a debt. Therefore, they can reject cash if they want.

There's a whole subset of people who only want cash for work they perform.
A guy did some landscaping work at the house and wanted all cash for a $2800 job.
I dont keep that much cash at home, so he said I could go to the bank and get it. I said I'll write you a check for cash, and you go to the bank, that's it.
We all know why he wanted cash.
