Legal != required to be accepted

I had my paralegal reach out to an out of state police department to arrange long arm service on someone.

They only accept checks. No cash, no credit cards. Checks.

I'm happy to give you their phone number if you want to rant at them, though

Isn’t this only for existing obligations?

If you go into a store and tell them you want to buy something, I don’t think they’d be compelled to take your cash and make the sale.

I only have a problem with cash not being accepted (credit cards only) and they charge a processing fee.

WTF Why do I have to pay a fee to pay for it with the only method you allow?

I can understand why some businesses dont accept cash for a security issue. Nobody is going to come in and wave a gun around and say "put all the credit card transactions on my card" like a refund. Well I say that but most certainly there are people stupid enough to do that.

Kinda like the wanna be bank robber who writes his holdup note for the teller using one of his deposit slips or a utility bill with his name and address on it.

Next time I sell something locally and say that I'm only willing to accept Zelle, ole boy here apparently thinks I'm breaking some law if I refuse their titty money

So you go eat at a restaurant and they present the bill, did you not you create a debt by eating? And now you are obligated to settle it.

Here’s the cash

Its interesting that you have felt the need to post on TD as much as you have and as long as you have just for the trolls.

I sincerely hope things are going ok for you in life.

Im sure there is ample signage indicating they dont accept cash.

Why do we want governments dictating private business policies?

Cash needed to be banned at stadium concessions, the amount of theft was off the charts(cashiers not ringing up items, pocketing cash)

Completely unrelated, but you gave me a not-so-great flashback of when I was a bank teller in college. More than a few times I had to un-wad and count a balled up, wet mass of bills that one particularly sweaty woman would pull out of her bra strap every Friday.

Probably why I lean slightly towards the “screw cash” side of the argument.

I seriously feel this way at times.

If I have a conversation about beans, next time I use my phone, bean ads pop up.

My phone won't ring for hours, yet as soon as I use my phone, the spam phone calls start flying in.

I mean, don’t most restaurants take cash since tipping is a major part of the transaction?

I’m not sure I’ve ever sat down at a restaurant that didn’t take cash.

You can find me as interesting as you’d like. Unfortunately for you, I’m off the market. I’m married, have two beautiful, healthy young children, and living in our dream home. I’d say things are going are going ok.

I can throw that right back at you. You're so against government mandating what most Americans would agree with, that Companies should be legally required to accept cash or at least a cash equivalent (Zelle, ACH charge, etc.).

I don't understand the sentence above.

Do most Americans agree that cash should be accepted by all business? If so, that is news to me. There are many federal agencies that don't take cash. Business has enough regulation, why burden business with more regulation which increases prices for the business which is passed on to the consumer.

Why should a private business be forced to accept cash or any of the other "cash" equivalents if they do not want to take cash? I don't recall that cash must be accepted by all in the The Bill of Rights.

What are the major parts of the American economy do Americans get shut out by not being able to use cash? If Americans are being shut out because they do not have a credit or debit card then that is on those Americans. If those Americans are so worried the Government and Big Data are tracking them, and they are being tracked, then they have to make a choice. These Americans should also probably give up their cell phones, not drive late model vehicles or post on the internet because they are being tracked by these also.

I ask as someone who always carries cash, because some businesses do not take cards and it's easier to carry cash than livestock and produce for barter.

There was never a federal law that required it. Some states and localities do have such laws.
