TWC app on my phone is showing 33 mph winds for Pineville/Alex in the morning? I figured it would be much worse up here?

Doesn't it depend on what time or are they saying that's the max? Doesn't sound right since that area is on the East side of the storm.

Vermilion Parish JUST issued a mandatory evacuation for some parts ** 43 ** minutes ago.

I'm all for personal responsibility -- I make my decisions but if you're gonna issue this, why the F do it at this point???

Oh and in case you missed it, super super reliable source told me that JBE said in a conference call that any deaths in Vermilion or Iberia were on the parish and NOT him.

Jesus.. this is the surge map for Ike. This storm will make landfall 100 miles closer and be 40 mph stronger.

Someone mentioned as far north as Texarkana will get trop storm winds? True? I guess I picked a bad time to hike in Mena this weekend. Total washout. 400 VRBO to grill a steak and sip whiskey.

If anyone is desperate and needs a dry safe place to stay, I'll monitor. Check in is Friday and I'll help.

HMON is just about the same as HWRF but a little stronger.

Yep. Sigh. I'm hoping for an EWRC just off shore as the waters shallow and the change in shear direction. We don't know what triggers them exactly but I have a pet hypothesis that changes in those sorts of conditions lead to some instability that can weaken the inner eyewall enough to start triggering in. I wouldn't make plans based on my half baked hypothesis though.

THIS

I’m praying that some last minute weakening happens - shear, shallow water, eye wall replacement, all 3, whatever....just something

It’ll still be bad but maybe not AS bad.

Again, that is my prayer

Hope not. There are still people here with tarps on their roofs and fighting insurance companies

1. Unsurvivable storm surge with large and destructive waves will cause catastrophic damage from Sea Rim State Park, Texas, to Intracoastal City, Louisiana, including Calcasieu and Sabine Lakes. This surge could penetrate up to 30 miles inland from the immediate coastline. Only a few hours remain to protect life and property and all actions should be rushed to completion.

Not often you see that strong of wording in a discussion.

Possibly going through an eyewall replacement, so getting stronger.

But I could be wrong and rds just posted it because it's interesting.

Yeah, I have that worry as well.

Pull for that eye to keep constricting. Alot of folks feel that the smaller eye can go into and EWRC faster and complete it faster. Of course, we don't want a completed EWR.

I feel really really bad... I am on business in Indiana.. My daughter is a JR at ULL. The wife called and wanted her to drive back to Dallas Monday night. I said absolutely not. It wasn't even a hurricane then. Tuesday my daughter and her friends decide to ride it out in an apt near ULL.

Now shite is going sideways and I am getting the business from my wife and my daughter (a little). I guess we should have put her on the road Monday night.

I seriously doubt anything will happen to her in Laffy but she won't forget it either.

Saw this on twitter under #Laura, kinda confirms what radar is showing in regards to eye contraction.

This is why I’m shocked by this no shelter business. Has anyone figured out if there really aren’t shelters? I’ve been watching the briefing and he didn’t list any. Unless i missed it. Jindal used to list all the available shelters during the briefings. Jindal was a madman with stats

I don't want the cycle to start until near the coast and have the inner eyewall degrade some. The contracting eye makes me think it's a possible outcome. Maybe just hoping.
