Interesting as I am trying to think of exactly how this would be paid for? Most gNB additions are still rather expensive and this is using existing sites.

In the latest promising development, New Orleans Mayor Latoya Cantrell announced Thursday that the city is seeking proposals from businesses and nonprofits for what could result in a massive project to add a Wi-Fi network throughout the city with the addition of small cells for 5G wireless. The city also wants their input on an IoT platform to “allow for the interoperability of varying devices.”

I can get behind this, most European cities have free WiFi that you can log into. Although it is New Orleans so it will not work half the time and be slow as frick.

Free WiFi doesn’t do much when your house and business is flooded. How about working drainage for all of New Orleans.

There's always going to be public works projects. As so, something like this seems to be worthwhile, as opposed to a lot of other useless shite politicians would rather be doing.

I am pretty sure the city tried this either just before or after Katrina and it failed miserably. Its a great idea but can the city competently pull it off.

Yeah, if there's one thing NOLA excels at, it's excellent infrastructure

Is it really a great idea when we are moving towards 5G becoming pretty ubiquitous on its own?

Actually a good idea that will certainly be botched, and cancelled at the last minute.
