Turkey is a pain in the arse but they control Black Sea access among other things.
Seems like something that would be solved in part by adding Ukraine to NATO, obviously with some help from us and other members.

Nah, Turkey controls the straits. But I'm sure Erdogan can be bought off.

NY times - “Ukraine War’s Geographic Reality: Russia Has Seized Much of the East”
“The Russian Defense Ministry said Tuesday that its forces in eastern Ukraine had advanced to the border between Donetsk and Luhansk, the two Russian-speaking provinces where Moscow-backed separatists have been fighting Ukraine’s army for eight years.
The ministry’s assertion, if confirmed, strengthens the prospect that Russia could soon gain complete control over the region, known as the Donbas, compared with just a third of it before the Feb. 24 invasion.”
Long article, good read.

A nice little reality check for the delusional crowd that thinks Ukraine is dominating.

Do you think Russia is dominating?
ETA: the cost of blood and treasure for every inch of ground they have achieved is rather high
ETA2: It's been pyrrhic at best

You just made up a false narrative in the same post accusing another group of being delusional.

quote:Literally nobody is saying Ukraine is dominating. The reality is that Ukraine has recaptured territory in the north while Russia grinds on slowly in the south. It's basically a stalemate currently between what was considered the 2nd most powerful military on the planet and a global afterthought from that standpoint.
A nice little reality check for the delusional crowd that thinks Ukraine is dominating.
The definition of delusional is confidently asserting Russia would control the entire country, including its capitol, in 48 hours, then turning around and pumping up territorial gains three months later in the Donbas (which has local militias and populations already friendly to Russia and which Russia already partially controlled) as some great overwhelming achievement.

That is so cute. These "insiders" think that Ukraine will allow Russia to end the war on its terms. Russia can hold a fake vote in Kherson if it wants but Ukraine is not going to recognize it.
I can see the logic here from the Russian side. Let’s assume, for the sake of argument, that two things are true:
1. Russia is unlikely to achieve their goals of regime change and full demilitarization in Ukraine.
2. Putin can’t risk the political consequences of being defeated.
If those two things are true, then Putin’s only real option is to try walk away while claiming victory. I agree that Ukraine is unlikely to accept that, so then the question becomes what happens next?
I suspect part of the calculus on the Russian side revolves around how the western support will react if the optics shift from Ukraine fighting for sovereignty to Ukraine launching an offensive to reclaim territory. Maybe western support starts to fade. Remember that it’s not just the direct military support to Ukraine that matters, but also the economic sanctions against Russia.
That being said, I think it’s unlikely that the west just walks away and tells Ukraine “good luck” at this point. And there’s also the possibility that the weapons and ammunition already delivered/authorized are enough. But again - I can see the logic. There might not be any “good” options.

Not going to happen.

If Russia annexes the sized territories, QED a Ukrainian attack becomes an attack on Russia, giving Putin an excuse to fully mobilize.

Why would we believe the Russian defense ministry after all of this?

Ukraine is currently training 500k+ with NATO equipment.
Why should we wet our pants because Russia wants to throw poor equipped conscripts into the fray?
This argument that Russia is "holding back " their best equipment is laughable and is not supported by evidence..
Perhaps it made sense early in the conflict when you expected UKA to roll over. But now you're in the fight of your life and being embarrassed by a supposed inferior foe. It makes ZERO sense to hold back.
UKA called Russia's bluff and its time for Putin to pay up.

Statement by the Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov.
Ukraine entering difficult phase of war, foreign weapons to provide advantage only after some time.
Ukraine is entering a new long-term phase of the war after Russia suffered a strategic defeat by May 9 and reduced the scale of its goals to the operational-tactical level, Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov has said.
At the same time, I want to note the following. We are facing extremely difficult weeks. No one can say for sure how many there will be.

Do you? I mean you were very certain that Kyiv was gonna fall early on and actually believe that Russia's withdrawal was just a fake out...hell I made a tongue in cheek comment about Russia just doing a fake out in Kharkiv and you said that was probably true. But sure we are the ones who are delusional because we talk about Ukraine's success and look at Russia's successes as lacking due to the cost of blood and treasure. Meanwhile you believe Russia's losses are just fake outs
