1. It seems less likely Russia will win the more this goes on.
2. What exactly would you want the defense minister to say if he were yours?

I suppose you similarly think this speech from FDR was delusional and not effective?

That's false. Russia is advancing in Donbas. Ukraine's economy is crippled. Once they have Donbas, Russia will go after the rest of the Black Sea coastline and effectively end any long term future of Ukraine as a nation.

We're now comparing Ukraine's defense minister to FDR after Pearl Harbor?

How do you not bring in politics when the war is 100% political?

#Russia openly threatening war against Poland

“State Duma proposed putting #Poland in line for denazification”, RIA Novosti reported.

Well, you can try. Just remember that after an attack on a #NATO country, there will be an accelerated denazification of State Duma.

MOSCOW, May 13 - RIA Novosti. The Polish leadership's statements about Russia "as a cancerous tumor" and about indemnities to Ukraine prompt the Russian Federation to "put it in line for denazification," said Oleg Morozov, chairman of the State Duma Committee on Control.

I don't disagree. But that's what I was told a few days ago after I interjected some politics after someone said something along the lines of Hunter Biden's laptop being mythical.

I'll refrain from political discussion but it's funny to watch the Ukraine glory defenders trip over themselves whenever someone else mentions politics but they're apparently still free to do so.

Well I supposed so when it’s been bombed to hell and back. It’s war. Russias economy? Weren’t they fighting over the last whopper in Russia 2 months ago? They can’t even build more tanks because their economy has been cut off from the civilized world.

It’s actually not that bad of a comparison, but the point is the hope and encouragement in the speech to will the desired result in the face of adversity. Should he have said they’re gonna struggle for years until they’re all dead or forced to give up? Maybe he should have taken notes from Putin, his troops morale is at record highs.

To be fair, Russia eventually using its pipeline as leverage over Germany/EU was also laughably transparent but it kind of, almost, worked.

And I’m certainly not saying this ploy will work, but it’s propaganda to feed to the Russian public and I do think there will be elements in the EU/NATO ready to strike a deal that ends the shooting as the calendar turns from summer to late fall.

I have an old college friend who's a serial job hopper, and in between working he typically takes a few months off and travels. He's been in Europe since March, starting in Paris and working his way east. As of his last update, he was in Budapest. No idea if he intends to keep going but I wouldn't put it past him. I don't expect the world to stop, but it does seem in bad taste to be globetrotting around so close to a war zone.

I quoted and linked a Far left wing newspaper who’s entire article was about Russia’s success in the East.

Here is a video out today...Russia reservists in the DPR being issued WW2 Mosin's. It would suck going into battle armed with a 5 shot bolt action rifle with iron sights against a kitted out M4 with modern optics.

Senior Defense Official Holds a Background Briefing
May 13, 2022

So day 79 here. Obviously, most of the activity that we are seeing and watching is in the Donbas area, and essentially, we continue to see the Russians not making any major gains in the Donbas. Very much, as we said, that would be very much an artillery fight back and forth, and that Ukrainian artillery is frustrating Russian efforts to -- to make much ground, -- including frustrating their efforts to cross the Donets River, as they continue to try to find a sense of momentum in the northern Donbas.

Also includes current assessment of all activities....

Looks like minimal progress to have lost an entire battalion to me, but
