Aren’t those Vietnam era APCs? Geez, I guess Biden didn’t learn anything from when he went to Ukraine to present them with HUMVEES that were made in the 1980s and didn’t run and whose tires who so dry rotten that they popped while rolling them off the airplanes.

Yes, they were first used in the Vietnam era, but have been upgraded multiple times since. The U.S. still has thousands in service and the replacement, the AMPV, just started production in 2020.

Hope they are wrong, but who knows.

Pentagon press secretary John Kirby told CNN that “there was an explosion” on the Russian cruiser Moskva, but added the United States cannot assess at this point if the ship was hit by a missile.

Russia said its warship "remains afloat" after a fire detonated ammunition on board, while Ukrainian officials said the Moskva was hit by Ukrainian Neptune anti-ship missiles and has sunk.

“We’re not quite exactly sure what happened here. We do assess that there was an explosion — at least one explosion on this cruiser — a fairly major one at that, that has caused extensive damage to the ship,” Kirby said.
Kirby said the damaged Russian warship is afloat and "making her own way across the Black Sea."

“We assess that the ship is able to make its own way, and it is doing that; it's heading more towards now we think the east. We think it's probably going to be putting in at Sevastopol for repairs, but we don’t know what exactly caused that,” Kirby added.

Kirby said the ship had been operating with a few other Russian vessels about 60 miles (about 96 kilometers) south of Odesa.

"The explosion was sizable enough that we picked up indications that other naval vessels around her tried to come to her assistance, and so eventually that wasn’t apparently needed. So she is making her own way across the Black Sea and we’ll continue to try and monitor this as best we can," he added.

I guess Putin speaks too much off the cuff too like Biden

quote:

Kremlin says condition for potential Putin-Zelensky summit is an agreement document

The condition for a possible meeting between Putin and Zelensky is an agreement document ready for the two leaders to sign, the #Kremlin said Thursday.

quote:

“In principle, President never refused such a meeting, but certain conditions must be prepared for it, namely, the text of the document,” Peskov told reporters on a regular conference call.

#Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer said in an interview with the Austrian news agency APA that at the talks in #Moscow, Putin assured him that #Russia would supply the volumes of gas specified in agreement and that it could continue to pay for it in euros.

DoD briefing today says "fire" extensive, but ship is afloat & heading east. They didn't confirm a weapons strike, but say Russian ships in the area have backed away from the coast to 80 km.

The Sun tours an abandoned Russian position. Conditions were absolutely squalid. Again, this is what happens when you don't have professional NCOs looking after the troops LINK

Even if just a moderate fire, that ship is going to be out of service for a long arse time.

And it’s great to think Russia is not going anywhere near the coast anytime soon.

Even during the last peak of the Cold War - 1984 or so, it was obvious. If something broke, the officer had to stop was he was doing and fix it because he was the only guy with enough experience to do it. Tactically, they were very poor as demonstrated in Afghanistan. Many times, they could have dismounted and cleared out the fighters after an ambush, but they would remain buttoned up in their vehicles and just take it until the Afghan ATGMs ran out.

The Red Air Force and Red Navy had better reputations than the army during the final decades of the Cold War, but Russia was always known as a land power. Other than that brief window of 1943 to 1945, may have been a paper, I guess, "bear".

Just went to Fox News. Apparently a senior DOD person says they don't know how the fire started on the ship. But they've moved 80km off the coast so what does the Board think?

The Daily Mail says that Turkish and Romanian boats picked up about fifty survivors after a SOS was issued at 1am local time. They are the lucky ones who abandoned ship.

Which makes steaming slowly to port for repairs iffy, if all abandoned ship.

Did she roll after taking two Neptunes to her port side, causing the explosion that is admitted to have happened.

The areal photo of ship shows how very long and narrow she was. An explosion would be a horror to the ships stability. Think of long canoes or dug outs. Once they roll, in the middle of a large body of water, they don't self right.

It would be so easy for the Russians to disprove this. So very, very easy.

How does Putin now know who to trust?

And found a news article

quote:

Russia accused Ukraine of striking the village of Klimovo, near Belarus, today

Moscow said seven people, including a two-year-old child, had been injured

Kyiv has since come out and denied the claim, accusing Moscow of staging 'terror attacks' on its own territory to stir up 'anti-Ukrainian hysteria'

Comes just a day after warning Kyiv could be bombed as payback for attacks

Ukraine has not confirmed any cross-border raids, instead warning of false flags

I mean what the hell can Russia threaten that it hasn't already done don't bombed us like we bomb you or else we will bomb you. I know we invaded you but how dare you retaliate
