bro...frick off with this shite. we should not be putting any american lives in danger, period. this is a european problem, not american problem.
We are joined at the hip with Western Europe. I think you could argue this is an Eastern European problem of old Soviet bloc countries. But the US will fight for Western Europe. We may even fight with Eastern European countries in NATO.

Ahh, that makes sense. For some reason I was confusing the Force Recon guys in Vietnam with Marine Raiders.
I didn't realize MARSOC was only formed in 2006.

Russia is also destroying the steel mills, fabrication plants, eyc needed to turn iron ore into usable products.
And schools, hospitals, museums. They bombed a 15th century monastery last week that was nowhere near any fighting. They are trying to destroy not only the industrial base, but the cultural institutions that make Ukraine a country. Oh and not to mention the mass deportations to the East that are taking place in Russian occupied areas. For someone whose stated aim was to denazify Ukraine, it's eerie how most of his actions are straight out of the Nazi playbook.

russia isnt attacking a nato country and they wont. they can barely handle ukraine, much less anything else.

Yup. It's why I find people in this thread going "Putin is gonna crush Ukraine then attack Poland or the Baltics!" hilarious.
Poland alone would push Putin's shite in based on how things have been going in Ukraine. Those guys really, reaaaaaally hate Russians.

Understand what you are saying. I'm only trying to dissuade those with the notion that things are a European problem and not ours. I can handle Russia/Ukraine being a Soviet Union problem.
We've been active in European affairs since WWII. Before that, maybe not so much.

Another stated (and laughable) goal is to preserve the use of the Russian language in Ukraine. I suspect this will largely be the end of the Russian language in whatever emerges in the aftermath of this as “Ukraine.” My maternal grandparents’ mother tongue was German. But as German was also the language of Hitler, the speaking of German was verboten in my mother’s childhood home.
The only goal at this point of Russia appears to be the complete destruction of a western leaning democracy on the boarder of Russia. NATO on its doorstep is not the threat to the current Russia government. Ordinary Russian’s seeing their cousins engaging in a free and functioning civil society is the threat to the Russian government.

Ukranian is not the same as Russian, it is similar.
Polish is more similar to Ukranian that Russian is.

This here. Like the Maidan this all is mostly due to Ukraine integration into Europe.

Well, that’s because Western Ukraine, where Ukrainian comes from, was Poland.

The Kievan Rus and the Grand Duchy of Moscow were combined by the Mongols after their invasion and conquest of both. The Kievan Rus resisted the Mongols more than Moscow did so the Mongols murdered more nobles of the Kievan Rus than they did Moscow nobles. Plus the Kieven Rus was hit harder by the plaques of the middle ages. When the Mongols were pushed out, the nobles of Grand Duchy of Moscow filled the power gap. After the collapse of the Russian Empire, Ukraine fought against being part of the USSR and only became part of the USSR as the point of a gun. Ukraine left the USSR as soon as it could. It also left the CIS as soon as it could as well.
Ukraine does not want to be Russian and never have.
Thanks for this, sincerely. This is the stuff this thread should include more than 90% of the last weeks worth of posts.

The Germans setup a puppet government in Kiev that was dominated by Westerners. This is the basis for modern Ukraine.
The people in Kiev had no idea who these people, their new leaders, were. They didn’t speak the same language.
The Donbas and Crimea was a center of White Russian resistance.
Edit - due to conscription who the peasants fought for came down to luck. If you were in an area with a Red Army, you would be pressed into it. The same was true with White regions. Many ended up fighting on both sides over the course of the war.

Lebowski was in Crimea and then Russia? Props. I knew The Dude liked white Russians and Caucasians. Didn't expect him to travel around the world tho.

Said it on purpose. We can call it the Russian Federation right now but the Ruskies want their old Soviet Union back. Why did some of those tank soldiers have the flag on their tanks?

If you haven't already I highly suggest watching the Putin Interviews. It is a series of great interviews done over a 6 yr period, gives great insight to what is going on now.

Is this some dumb arse attempt at denying that Russia is not leveling entire areas of cities in Ukraine?
