SCLibertarian has been mighty quiet this thread. I guess the "libertarian meme handbook" doesn't have a copy and paste talking point for harsh reality like this.

Boris Johnson just spoke to Parliament outlining a package of military aid to Ukraine and harsh sanctions against Russia, including expulsion from SWIFT. Opposition leader rose in full support.

All Russia has to do is without oil and natural gas. All these Europeans countries begging for green energy will suffer the consequences and they deserve it.

Boris Johnson just announced massive sanctions that the UK will impose on Russia. Targeting Russian banks, five Russian oligarchs, and over 100 Russian companies and individuals, including the biggest Russian defense company.

We'll see if Biden follows suit, or if our sanctions are just sanctions in name only.

craziest part about this tbh. never once thought about what a war would be like today with social media and almost everyone owning phones with cameras.

We got a little taste of it with the clusterfrick in Kabul. The best sources were locals or media that reported straight to Twitter. When most of the international media evacuated that was all we had. Some local media did a damn fine job despite facing chances of being beaten, tortured, or killed.

Good. Hopefully the west, including the United States, will impose sanctions that cripple the Russian economy.

Crazy how much these movements match the invasion of Poland.

I'd say it's a fairly reasonable possibility that China is waiting to see how Russia performs in Ukraine before making any moves. If Russia gets bogged down against an insurgency and is unable to force regime change for much longer than expected, China may take a step back and evaluate how they'll approach taking over Taiwan.

The longer a Russian invasion takes against a far weaker opponent, (presumably) the longer a Chinese invasion takes against a far weaker opponent AND the United States, without Russian support.

I think this is good thought process, but as others say: I’m just some guy on the internet.

Boris Johnson hinted that the U.S. will impose similar financial sanctions to those of the UK. I guess we will see.

ChinA has to cross an ocean, too, which complicates things considerably. AFAIK they still don't have much amphibious capability.

Ukraine’s ambassador to the US just told us that a Russian platoon from the 74th Motorized Brigade has surrendered to Ukraine’s forces. She says that the Russian troops apparently had been unaware they were being sent to kill Ukrainians. No confirmation yet from Russia’s military

Looking for a confirm on this.

That old senile frick is supposed to be addressing the country right now, but he’s too busy watching Leave It to Beaver eating a fudge pop.

Sounds weird, but the spread of cell phone cams and getting all these eye-witness accounts only helps Ukraine because of how easily it brings the horrors of war to everyone - more so than Vietnam, the Gulf War, or the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

We will see just how long the videos and Tweets and other stuff keep getting out. Part of the equipment originally staged at the border were multiple mobile cell phone/internet jammers. They will move those into the cities if and when they move to take them. Then, everything from non-traditional sources will be cut.

So, appreciate it while we can because we will likely soon be reliant upon traditional media outlets only.

This guy Rob Lee is a really good Twitter follow. I've been reading his stuff for weeks now. He's a vet and PhD student in war studies. He specializes in Russian military. Go way back in his timeline and you can read him talk about all the equipment Russia has massed at the border.

It was also verified as true by him and others that last night's report of fighting at the Belarus border happened. It is interesting wording they used,
quote:

"Russian equipment made a breakthrough in the Zhytomyr region from the territory of Belarus, border service of Ukraine reports."

They didn't say the Russians made the breakthrough, not that it is a big surprise that Belarussians would be helping.

The only point I've seen them make about the conflict - which is a good one - is the importance of an armed citizenry.
