Biden is asking Congress for an additional $24 billion for Ukraine. The Pentagon revealed the details

The administration of US President Joe Biden will appeal to Congress with a request for additional funding to support Ukraine in the amount of $24 billion. This information was confirmed to Voice of America by officials of the US Department of Defense.

The Pentagon said that of this amount, they want to allocate $8 billion to the USAI program (Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative), and $16 billion to replenish US warehouses, so that it is possible to form new aid packages under the PDA program (presidential powers program).

Absolutely disgusting. I'm reminded of lovely Diana's heroic mine walk.

I pray that our President Trump can end this madness ASAP.

ISW Update Dec 2

quote:

Key Takeaways:

Prominent voices within the Russian information space continue to emphasize that Russian President Vladimir Putin is uninterested in a negotiated settlement to the war in Ukraine that results in anything less than total Ukrainian capitulation.

Russia's increased domestic production of Shahed-type drones has allowed Russia to increase the number of drones it is using in strike packages launched at Ukraine, but Ukrainian electronic warfare (EW) innovations are enabling Ukrainian forces to more effectively respond to Russian strike packages.

The Kremlin continues efforts to minimize the war’s social impacts on the Russian populace while tacitly resetting the goalposts for what the Kremlin initially defined as victory in Ukraine.

Pro-Kremlin Russian Telegram channel operators continue to resist Russian government efforts to deanonymize Russian social media accounts.

Ukrainian forces recently advanced near Chasiv Yar, and Russian forces recently advanced near Toretsk, Pokrovsk, and Kurakhove.

The Russian military command is focusing on training additional Russian forces and improving Russian forces' tactical assault operations.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces were ordered to hold part of the Kursk region until Trump takes office

Units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces that have taken control of part of the Kursk region have been instructed to hold the occupied territory until the end of January, when Donald Trump assumes office in the United States, several Ukrainian soldiers told *BBC News*.

"Our main task is to hold as much territory as possible until Trump's inauguration and the start of negotiations. After that, it can be traded for something. No one knows what," said one Ukrainian soldier.

In November, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin aims to push the Ukrainian army out of the Kursk region before Trump’s inauguration. To help Ukraine hold back the Russian counteroffensive near Kursk, the U.S., U.K., and France have authorized Kyiv to use long-range weapons against targets on Russian territory.

In November, 151 drones flew into Belarus during Russian strikes on Ukraine, writes the Belarusian Hayun monitoring project, which calls it a new record

“During November, at least 148 Russian Shahed-type kamikaze drones and three reconnaissance drones of unknown type entered the airspace of Belarus,” the report says.

According to the researchers, out of 151 drones, 82 returned to Ukraine and Russia, and 66 disappeared.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte says Ukraine's membership is secondary, — Financial Times.

"The most important thing right now is to make sure that whenever Zelenskyy decides to start peace talks, he can do so from a position of strength. This is my number one priority right now," — Mark Rutte said.

He added that the allies are discussing the possibility of inviting Ukraine, but it is more important to support Ukraine in the war.

Sweden Suspects Sabotage Over Internet Cable Damage to Finland

Swedish police have reported significant damage to the internet cable connecting Finland and Sweden. The break occurred on land, disrupting television and internet communication between the two countries.

Sweden’s Minister of Civil Defense, Carl-Oskar Bolin, described the incident as a possible act of sabotage. Communications Minister Lulu Ranne emphasized that the authorities are taking the matter very seriously.

This is not the first such incident: two weeks ago, undersea cables in the Baltic Sea connecting Finland, Germany, Sweden, and Lithuania were damaged.

Igor Girkin-Strelkov commented on the events in Syria, stating that he predicted problems back in 2015 due to involvement in a war in a distant country. He added that it is impossible to help Assad in any way, and his defeat will automatically mean Russia’s defeat.

So, a week or so ago I said something about the South Korean left wanting reunification under Kim rule, and one of the Putin bros mocked me for making that statement (which is funny, because it's generally acknowledged reality)...

and...

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declares martial law, opposition leaders vow to fight
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law on Tuesday as he accused the country's main opposition party of being overly sympathetic to North Korea and other "anti-state" activities.

Yoon said in a late night television address that he made the declaration "to protect the free Republic of Korea from the threat of North Korean communist forces, to eradicate the despicable pro-North Korean anti-state forces that are plundering the freedom and happiness of our people, and to protect the free constitutional order."

South Korean opposition parties had taken the country's parliamentary system hostage and thrown the country into crisis, leaving him no choice but to make the drastic move, Yoon said. Lee Jae-myung, leader of the opposition Democratic Party, which has the majority in parliament, told YTN parliament would try to nullify the declaration.

There's two dynamics at play here... the SK right tends towards dictatorship (they've only truly become Democratic in the 90s) and corruption, and the SK left tends towards being overly sympathetic to the North and feeling that the Kim regime is more "Korean" and that "the West" has hijacked SK.

Add to that current suspicion that Russia is generally conducting its cyber hijinks in response to SK increasingly backing Ukraine.

Idiotic... so Zelensky is unpopular IF you count the Russian-controlled areas where people would be imprisoned or worse if they approved of Zelensky? Putin is a model of Democracy and fair elections!
