ISW Update Sept 8th
quote:
Key Takeaways:
Central Intelligence Agency Director (CIA) William Burns cautioned the West against concern about boilerplate Russian nuclear saber-rattling, which ISW has long identified as part of a Kremlin effort to promote Western self-deterrence and influence key moments in Western policy debates about support for Ukraine.
Russian milbloggers continue to offer insights into how the Kremlin is co-opting select milbloggers to regulate the spread of information in Russia.
The Kremlin has not yet succeeded in co-opting or silencing all Russian milbloggers, however.
The milbloggers’ insights into such incidents suggest that the Kremlin is attempting to co-opt milbloggers or encourage them to self-censor, as opposed to a more aggressive policy of direct censorship.
The Russian Investigative Committee is investigating a "mass brawl" between Russian ultranationalists and Central Asian residents in Afipsky, Krasnodar Krai, amid increased xenophobia against migrants and ethnic minorities in Russia.
Ukrainian officials continued to announce a series of appointments among senior members of the Ukrainian cabinet on September 8.
Russian forces conducted counterattacks in Kursk Oblast amid continued Ukrainian offensive operations in the area on September 8.
Russian forces recently advanced near Toretsk and marginally advanced near Chasiv Yar.
A Russian milblogger who formerly served as a "Storm-Z" unit instructor claimed on September 8 that the Russian military needs to improve the training of drone unit commanders.

napalm and cluster bombs will be the choice for both Ukraine and Russia over the next several months. CIA will push the envelope

"Oh those amazing Ukrainians -- they just invented their own cruise missile, their own jet-powered drone, and now they are testing their own ballistic missile. They are amazing inventors!
Last week I posted a link to an article about Ukraine developing a ballistic missile and that was in the back of my mind. It's a war ravaged country that just wouldn't have the resources or time to set up a huge R&D program. Thought they may be getting some outside help.

CNN: Outgunned and outnumbered, Ukraine’s military is struggling with low morale and desertion
quote:
CNN spoke to six commanders and officers who are or were until recently fighting or supervising units in the area. All six said desertion and insubordination are becoming a widespread problem, especially among newly recruited soldiers.
quote:
“Not all mobilized soldiers are leaving their positions, but the majority are. When new guys come here, they see how difficult it is. They see a lot of enemy drones, artillery and mortars,” one unit commander currently fighting in Pokrovsk told CNN. He also asked to remain anonymous.
“They go to the positions once and if they survive, they never return. They either leave their positions, refuse to go into battle, or try to find a way to leave the army,” he added.
Unlike those who volunteered earlier in the war, many of the new recruits didn’t have a choice in entering the conflict. They were called up after Ukraine’s new mobilization law came into force in the spring and can’t leave legally until after the government introduces demobilization, unless they get special permission to do so.
quote:
As the battlefield situation deteriorated, an increasing number of troops started to give up. In just the first four months of 2024, prosecutors launched criminal proceedings against almost 19,000 soldiers who either abandoned their posts or deserted, according to the Ukrainian parliament. More than a million Ukrainians serve in the country’s defense and security forces, although this number includes everyone, including people working in offices far away from the front lines.
It’s a staggering and – most likely – incomplete number. Several commanders told CNN that many officers would not report desertion and unauthorized absences, hoping instead to convince troops to return voluntarily, without facing punishment.
It seems like the Ukrainian people don't want to fight this war.

Morale could be low. War is hell. It wasn’t their choice.
But you would think they’d protest in the streets if they were upset with fighting the war for their own survival.

French expert suggests remedy against Russian glide bombs
09.09.2024 14:02
In order to effectively counter Russia’s guided aerial bombs terrorizing the border areas, the Ukrainians must have at hand long-range missiles and permission to fire them on targets deep inside Russia.
French military expert and air defense consultant Xavier Tytelman spoke of this in an interview with an Ukrinform correspondent in France.
"The most effective solution against the so-called glide bombs are long-range missiles carried by F-16s, with which the Ukrainians will be entitled to strike deep into Russian territory," Tytelman said.
Otherwise, he added, any pilot would be exposed every time they fly on an interception mission.
"Ukrainians need AMRAAM (modern medium-range air-to-air missiles - ed.) for their F-16s, but with a longer range, variant D, or their variants, capable of hitting targets at a 120km range. Then they can target Russian fighter jets carrying these bombs, and at the same time stay beyond a Russian radar reach even if they are on," the expert explained.
He insists that there is also the possibility of using AMRAAM missiles with a shorter range of 70 km, which the Americans have already provided for the F-16s delivered to Ukraine, but this option remains too risky.
"This is dangerous because the Russians have plenty of air defense systems that can engage the F-16s. Only with accurate intelligence that the Russian radar is disabled or neutralized can an F-16 fly out to intercept a Russian fighter jet."
Also, according to Tytelman, this will only be possible once Ukraine has enough aircraft that can not only protect the rear, but also deploy over the frontlines to attack.

Ukraine Develops its Own Long Range Aerial Glide Bomb
As the US and other Western allies prevaricate on authorizing Ukraine to use their long-range weapons against targets in Russia, Kyiv has taken a step towards producing another of its own.
by Kyiv Post | September 9, 2024, 10:45 am
A video released at the weekend on the unofficial Telegram channel @UkrAirForce and reposted on X / Twitter shows a Ukrainian Su-24 (NATO: Fencer) variable-wing bomber carrying what appears to be a new type of air-launched guided munition. It seems likely that the video was filmed sometime in August.
The munition itself appears to consist of a three-part kit attached to an aerial “dumb bomb” to convert it into a precision-guided weapon.
It is made up of a cruciform finned tail section with an opening that suggests it includes a secondary turbojet or rocket propulsion system. The mid body has a central “rib” along the top of the munition and metal bands around the circumference which are typical of a pop out wing mechanism on which the bomb would glide towards its target. The nose section would contain the guidance system which is probably a combined GPS and inertial system.
The fact that this munition visibly resembles the French Armement Air-Sol Modulaire Highly Agile Modular Munition Extended Range (AASM Hammer) is probably no coincidence as the Ukraine Air Force has received a number of them and their US counterpart the Joint Direct Attack Munition-Extended Range (JDAM-ER).
A Ukrainian air force spokesperson Brig. Gen. Serhii Holubotsov announced in June that Ukraine was in the process of developing its own guidance and range extension kit which would transform its Soviet-era unguided bombs into precision munitions. The test flight on the Su-24 seems to be an important step in the new weapon’s development.
During the Ramstein meeting of the Ukraine Contact Group of nations Sept. 6, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin intimated that Ukraine was producing its own long-range weapons capable of striking targets within Russia. In doing so he said there was a critical need to help support and develop Ukraine’s domestic defense production with which he said Washington along with several US defense contractors were currently engaged.

You can post all the propaganda you want but it doesnt negate the fact Russia continues to progress and Ukraine troops are outgunned, outmanned, and completely demoralized.
When CNN starts posting the brutal truth you know its to prepare all of you for the US withdrawal of support.
Who is next for the money laundering, DRC, Yemen, Burma, tried and true Middle East? Lots of money being fleeced in the Philippines for several new bases, ah yes thats the ticket.

This is what I admire about you and the other PT boys.
You constantly warn those of us who don’t understand the world situation like ya’ll do about the danger of listening to the MSM especially CNN. However, in special cases like this one you guys are able to ascertain right away that CNN is not spreading CIA propaganda.
Could you tell us your secret? How can you tell the difference? How do you know CNN didn’t lie?

They also claim to be rabid anti communists. Yet they are cock holsters for a guy who -- quite literally -- still holds onto his Communist Party Membership Card.
But he's a good Communist dictator. Because he doesn't like trannies.

I've looked at this from every angle, and it's about all I can come up with myself.
You can get Sir Winston talking about it. And he'll pretty much admit the same. And then he'll top it off with: The Russians are a bunch of good Christian lads prosecuting this war in a moral fashion as a crusade against the western hegemony of globalist perverts."
Deep down, even that weirdo doesn't believe it. But it must sound cool in his head or something.

About a year ago, as a troll, I posted the Taliban manifesto on the Poli Board..and said something like: Well, at least we can say they're conservative.
It got a ton of upvotes and positive feedback. Like: "Yeah they have their priorities right when it comes to family, God, and country." It was amazing.
