I don't think that anybody thought that, on day 17 of the Kursk invasion, Ukraine would still be advancing rather easily. But here we are.
As I have said before, the advances to the west are to be expected, as Ukrainian control of the Glushkovo district south of the Seim River is a fait accompli.
But the new territory to the northeast of Sudzha is critical. Sudzha should now basically be safe from random FPV drones, and it is increasingly able to function as a HQ for the incursion. Without FPVs flying around all the time, Sudzha can be properly fortified. That's the key to holding it for the long term.
EDIT: Kozyrevka is 20 km from Sudzha. If Ukraine can take Belitsa and Giri, they would actually be able to make Sudzha safe from artillery (though not, of course, safe from glide bombs).

UKR SOF units have roamed freely beyond controlled territory so there is that aspect which could explain this.

Can you imagine how many sabotage and espionage units the Ukies have been able to slip into Russia with all the confusion going on in the Russian military.

For almost a week, those Ukrainian spies could simply drive from Ukraine to wherever they wanted to in Russia, posing as Russians fleeing the fighting in the Kursk region.

Reportedly three entire battalions worth in squad and platoon size

Ben Hodges gave a great interview recently and discussed the slow Russian response.
He cited how Putin put the FSB in charge of the situation to make it seem like a response to terrorism.
There is no love lost between the military Generals and the FSB. They aren’t in a hurry to rush their good units away from Donbas to go take orders from the FSB in Kursk.

Sadly, BKR's posts seem to have disappeared, as he came back with something like his 5th alter, and I think he got banned again. But they were great -- stuff about how Russia will crush these few Ukrainians right away. I wish people wouldn't report his alters.
This was Lima's reaction: LINK

It will probably take a couple of weeks at minimum, the balance of forces in Kursk is around 1:1 right now, but the Russians will annihilate these units and push back over the border into Sumy. The Russian advantage in drones, artillery, and air power will do that.

As the Kursk Raid comes to a predictable conclusion we should ask ourselves what it was the Ukrainians set out to accomplish and whether, in light of those goals, the raid was a success or a failure. Don’t worry I know that no matter how great or how obvious Ukraine’s failure in all levels the idiots here will declare victory. I find that very satisfying and amusing.
Lol superb stuff here from this dude.

He did say two weeks at a minimum.....so, you know he can't technically be wrong.
I notice we haven't seen much of SW or OML here lately. They pop in to insult us as slimy war mongering liberal freaks, and then they disappear.

Presidential drawdown of $125 million today. It's mostly the usual ammo:

Ukraine is now firing more and more of their own cruise missiles, to greater and greater effect.
