Ukraine’s high-precision airstrike hits Russian stronghold in Kursk region

The Ukrainian Air Force targeted a Russian platoon base in Kursk region, using U.S.-made GBU-39 high-precision bombs.

That’s according to the Air Force Commander, Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk, who posted the video of the strike on social media, Ukrinform reports.

Oleshchuk reported that the Air Force hit a drone control hub, an electronic warfare unit, some military equipment, weaponry, and nearly 40 personnel.

Ukraine's 3rd Separate Assault Brigade pushes almost 2 sq km into Russian-occupied territory in Kharkiv Oblast

LINK

quote:

The 3rd Separate Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has said that it has advanced almost two square kilometres into Russian-occupied territory in Kharkiv Oblast in the northeast of Ukraine.
quote:

In a counterattack, the brigade gained control over an area previously controlled by a [Russian] battalion, including [Russian] platoon and company strong points, and advanced almost 2 square kilometres into [Russian-controlled territory]. The ratio of forces on the battlefield was 2.5:1 in [Russia’s] favour, plus [Russian] support forces."

Andrii Biletskyi, the brigade’s commander, said that the brigade has completed its main task, to undermine the offensive potential of Russia’s 20th Army.

The brigade also said that over the past three days, Russian forces lost up to 300 personnel and a lot of Russian weapons and equipment were damaged or destroyed. The brigade’s assault operation diverted Russian forces from Makiivka and helped ease the pressure on critical areas under the responsibility of other Ukrainian brigades.

It would seem that relocating forces from the Kharkiv region to Kursk may have complicated the Russian defense of their remaining positions in the Kharkiv region.

Why is the little village of Krasnooktyabrskoe (labeled in purple) significant? Because it's on the Seim River, and the fact that Ukraine has firm positions there confirms that Ukraine has officially isolated any Russian troops in the Glushkovo district south of the Seim. There is now, officially, no land-based connection between the Glushkovo district and the rest of the Kursk region.

Those Russian troops have twice built pontoons that have been blown up. They are not going to be able to supply themselves that way. As I've said before, the big question is how many men and how much equipment Russia still has in that area, because they are eventually going to lose it all.

Well that is not a very effective way of convincing Ukrainians that they are actually Russians who just don’t realize that they are actually Russians.

ISW Update Aug 22nd

quote:

Key Takeaways:

The Russian military command recently redeployed elements of at least one Russian airborne (VDV) regiment from western Zaporizhia Oblast in response to Ukraine’s incursion into Kursk Oblast, possibly in an effort to stabilize the lines and improve command and control (C2) over Russian conscripts.

The Russian military command reportedly heavily committed elements initially intended for the Russian offensive effort in northern Kharkiv Oblast to the defense of Kursk Oblast.

The Kremlin may be taking steps to address its border vulnerabilities amid the Ukrainian incursion into Kursk Oblast and following a series of unsuccessful long-term efforts to improve Russian border security.

Ukrainian forces marginally advanced throughout their salient in Kursk Oblast amid continued Russian efforts to stop these advances on August 22.

Recent Russian advances in the Pokrovsk direction appear to have prompted Ukrainian withdrawals from limited positions southeast of Pokrovsk, and Russian forces have likely failed to achieve their apparent objective of tactically encircling Ukrainian forces in the area.

The tempo of Russian aviation operations is reportedly decreasing throughout most of the theater, although this decreased tempo may be temporary, and its cause is unclear.

Ukrainian forces conducted a series of successful strikes against targets in Volgograd Oblast and Krasnodar Krai on August 22.

Russian forces recently advanced north of Siversk, within Chasiv Yar and southeast of Toretsk and Pokrovsk.

Russian State Duma Committee on Information Policy Head Alexander Khinshtein stated on August 21 that the Russian Union of Journalists and Ministry of Digital Development submitted a bill to the Cabinet of Ministers proposing to grant veteran status to journalists who have worked in Ukraine, the "counter-terrorism operation" zone in Kursk Oblast, and other unspecified combat zones.

Behind Putin's static defense, I can only hope that they can roll them up from behind.

Are you breaking your own ribs and trying to suck your own dick because of some RFK fantasy you have? You are the closest anyone here is to a Nazi with how fanatical you are with everything. Maybe one day you'll learn emotional regulation. Until then, go away for a few years again.

Interesting Fighterbomber post about the recent Ukrainian attack on Marinovka air base that inflicted considerable damage.

He claims that all airworthy planes were flown out before the attack, which is plausible, but he also indicates that there were a number of airframes there that weren't airworthy but should have been, as they only needed minor repairs, but that the spare parts weren't available.

The new dilemma of the Russian Army.

Civilians who sign a contract to serve are being given the equivalent of $20,000 as a signing bonus. These same people make $400 or less per month as civilians. That's roughly 4 years of pay in a single shot. Why would they want to expose themselves to death instead of living and enjoying their newfound "wealth"?

other problem is the guys who signed up for smaller enlistment bonuses are upset, and potential enlists are waiting for the bonus to go up even higher....

This conflicts with other info sources but a good read.

So Gazprom has numerous European lawsuits against it for breach of contract. Note that Russian consumers get subsidized supplies. Also, that lower prices to quid pro quo nations like the Fat Boy of Hungary et al

FTR, Gazprom could in fact deliver more natural gas to Europe before Nord Stream 1 was built than it has ever delivered.
