Satellite images of aftermath of AFU strike on Russian airfield "Lipetsk"
09.08.2024 21:33
"According to the images, a number of the airfield's buildings, which could have been used as warehouses, are completely destroyed, and a large-scale fire is likely to have been going on in the area. Two craters are also visible on the ground, which may be the result of missiles or drones used by the Ukrainian armed forces to launch strikes," the report says.

1) “legally” since this is russian territory he can use yearly conscripts to fight to reclaim
So he may let conscripts and aviation/artillery fight to retake. But this tactic will level Russian villages
Yeah... if they use the tactics they've used in the Donbas, they will have to just shell their own villages to dust and piles of rubble... while sending meat waves to their deaths

2) Putin may use this to increase the amount on conscripts he calls up.
All the untrained, unmotivated conscripts in the world really do little good in the face of a superiorly trained and equipped military,,,

My reading of Trump on this is that he will offer a carrot and a big stick. I doubt Putin will go for the carrot and Trump won't do a dribs and drabs roll out of equipment.
I think this offensive makes your take more likely than it was before.

What would Putin do if Ukraine announced their plans to annex the occupied territory?
That would be the ultimate troll.

When does Lima clock in at the Kremlin? Would love to see his take on this "dissident"

The Kremlin hasn’t given him his talking points in a few days. Maybe he made friends with a skyscraper window.

And the link to his Substack analysis. LINK
Thanks for the heads up.
It seems to me as with the sinking of the Moskva that Russians cannot observe in a 360 direction, maybe 180 degrees of the circle at best of the battlespace. Ukraine has shown innovation from the beginning.
We still don't know what the goals were for the obvious early success of this mission are yet.

Isw update Aug 9th
quote:
Key Takeaways:
Russian sources claimed on August 9 that Ukrainian forces advanced further east in Kursk Oblast but are likely no longer operating as far north or as far west as Russian sources previously claimed on August 8.
Ukrainian forces reportedly struck a Russian military convoy east of Rylsk near Oktyabrskoye, Kursk Oblast.
The Russian military command appears to be relying on existing units deployed to the international border area and readily available forces in the rear, most of which are units staffed with conscripts and irregular forces, to address the ongoing Ukrainian incursion into Kursk Oblast.
These units would likely be the first to respond even if the Russian military command has decided to transfer additional, more experienced units from elsewhere in the theater.
The Russian military command may currently be resisting operational pressures to redeploy forces from other operational directions to prevent the Ukrainian incursion from disrupting Russian offensive operations in eastern Ukraine.
The Russian military command may currently be transferring more experienced and better-provisioned frontline units from eastern or southern Ukraine to Kursk Oblast, but it would likely take additional time for such units to arrive in Kursk Oblast.
Ukrainian forces conducted strikes against a Russian military airfield in Lipetsk Oblast and other Russian military targets in occupied Crimea and Donetsk Oblast on August 9.
Russian forces recently made confirmed advances near Chasiv Yar, Toretsk, and Pokrovsk.
The Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) continues to posture itself as providing sufficient medical care to Russian servicemembers.

I discovered that subscription needed after posting the link.
Never heard of him until Obtuse1's tip. Obtuse1's tips are always good info and would be seen as eclectic by some.

Magyar as always putting in work on Russian artillery with FPV drones. In 6 days the unit alone destroyed 22 Russian D-30 towed howitzers. Not only did they destroy them but they made sure they wouldn’t be able to be repaired by targeting the barrel or the breach of the howitzer. Russia is running desperately low on replacement barrels for their artillery. Some strikes only put a hole the size of a quarter in the barrel but that’s that is required to destroy the howitzer.

Just so y'all know, that two-day-old video was done by a guy speaking Russian with a Ukrainian accent. It's pretty obviously a fake.

For the moment, it's unknown whether this is just a few guys doing a photo op, or whether it's the start of something else.

Fighterbomber reports that Russia just lost another Ka-52, shot down with manpads at point-blank range.

Two more villages in the Kursk region are reported to be under Ukrainian control:
Martynovka is northeast of Sudzha (the "city" of over 5000 that's the epicenter of the invasion), so it represents a buffer and indicates that the reported Russian force supposedly counterattacking from that direction hasn't amounted to much yet, if it even actually existed and wasn't simply Russian cope.
Taking Plekhovo connects the Ukrainian invasion to another section of the border and expands the occupied area.
At this point, it's obvious that no large Russian force is immediately materializing, and the Ukrainian occupation is continuing to grow.
Has anyone wondered yet why there haven't been any videos yet of Ukrainians stealing washing machines and toilets and sending them back home?

One of the things that I've been thinking about is that, right now, Budanov has open access to Russia. I wonder how many spies and saboteurs he's inserting into Russia right now.
