Me too. I graduated in 1971 and I can think of several classmates that were drafted within a couple of months of graduation.

Uh, uh, Russia has a wee bit larger population......and 10 million of their citizens havent bolted rather than be killed by cargo pants so he can line his pockets.

So Russia had 700 people go awol and ukraine had 10 million flee the country. Hmm says a lot about who believes in the cause eh?

Russia had 700 who were granted trials.
Big difference

You left out this sentence .

Yet Putin isn't trying to mobilize people from either St. Petersburg or Moscow, plus 1+ million of the best and brightest left rather being mobilized and 20 million remaining of age are mainlining cheap rot gut vodka.
So you would stay in your bombed out home instead of seeking shelter>

Yet again you are clueless. The Kazakh government is estimating the number of Russians avoiding the draft at 200,000, and that's in one country alone. When I was there last year our guide was pointing them out, the numbers were quite high. There are Russians all over the world now, and they are generally the brightest and the best, since they have the means to flee. Russia can't afford brain drain, yet here they are.

Where were you when Russian men were fleeing the country at the start of the SMO? A quick Google search will show you that the numbers were very large.

No

6.5 million
Nearly 6.5 million refugees from Ukraine have been recorded globally (as of February 2024).
LINK
FWIW only about 10% of that is conscription age men, and Ukriane has started to deny consular services to them (unpopular by those effected obviously)
quote:
According to Eurostat data, approximately 650,000 refugee men of conscription age have been living in the European Union, Switzerland, Norway, or Lichtenstein since the beginning of the invasion. It is unclear how many of them left Ukraine legally and how many paid bribes. This number does not include men who left before the war.
A BBC investigation late last year reported that 20,000 men had dodged the draft by fleeing “illegally” into neighbouring countries.

And fwiw in the same article it bashes the Ukrainian government
quote:
To support Ukraine from across the border, he makes donations and buys Starlink satellite-internet kits in Europe for volunteers back in his homeland. Although he is guilt-stricken living abroad, he feels joining the army would not help the war effort.
“If the army could guarantee that my work would be aligned with my skills and knowledge, I would go back. I could help with drones and other technology. But getting a rifle and shooting would not be the most efficient way of utilising my skills,” said the 35-year-old, who requested to withhold his last name.
quote:
Anton*, 19, left Ukraine after the war began. He lives in Poland with his 41-year-old father and 18-year-old brother. If they stayed in Ukraine, all three would likely be sent to fight.
“I support individual battalions in Ukraine with donations every month – this is my duty,” said Anton, who works as a waiter.
“But I don’t want to fight, as I don’t trust our government. They don’t care about people. And they don’t care if there’s a war going on, they’re corrupt and keep stealing the money that we pay for the army. Why go to war for a state who only wants to steal?” he said bitterly.
The exceptions include men with disabilities, fathers of three or more children under the age of 18, and single fathers – conditions which do not apply to most of the tens of thousands of Ukrainian men who have been living abroad since the beginning of the war

Just the facts sir.
quote:
An ongoing refugee crisis began in Europe in late February 2022 after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Over 6 million refugees fleeing Ukraine are recorded across Europe,[1] while an estimated 8 million others had been displaced within the country by late May 2022.[needs update][2][3][4] Approximately one-quarter of the country's total population had left their homes in Ukraine by 20 March.[5] 90% of Ukrainian refugees are women and children, while most Ukrainian men between the ages of 18 and 60 are banned from leaving the country.
There is a big difference in refugees fleeing an invasion and draft dodgers. Women, children and the elderly make up a large part of the refugees fleeing a war inside their country.
Now I’m sure that Ukraine has draft dodgers too, but this 10,000,000 number you always throw out there has nothing to do with draft dodging and everything to do with millions of people running away from Russian brutality and an illegal invasion.

A large number of younger people certainly left
The attitude from the Russian perspective, from ordinary people and even from government officials has been “good riddance” though. They certainly lost some human potential, but these are also people who walked away from their country and their countrymen in a time of crisis, and that’s seen as a social sin. And in their eyes, losing these people is not a loss, it’s addition by subtraction. And they feel the same way about the people who bought one way tickets to Israel. You were never one us were you.
It will have an interesting impact on Russia post war, because these people (with apologies to my friends, because I’m describing people I know and genuinely like) are all liberals and often fit the stereotype of the self hating Russian. The post war Russia will be economically stronger, and certainly wealthier, but the war is also strengthening the countries soul.

As far as recruiting goes, the Russians are getting 30k volunteers a month. They’re not calling up reservists anymore, or using prisoners, because they just don’t need to.
I need to go back and see what the Ukrainian figure is, but if I remember correctly less than one percent of Ukrainian recruits are volunteers. Average age is also 45.

Leftists are pretty awful. But, I think the hardcore ''merica first'' guys pumping RUSSIA, are (barely) worse.

Yet Russia had to free criminals?
Yet Russia has to entice Indians and Africans to fill their ranks? Yet according to your stats they just recently passed Ukraine up in the numbers of soldiers?
And still Russia is just slowly winning a few square miles a month even though according to you they are running out of young men and are relying mostly on middle aged soldiers?
Your analysis makes no sense. Your statistics are never supported. You come here and post all this pro Russia stuff without sourcing. Why?
