The attitude from the Russian perspective, from ordinary people and even from government officials has been “good riddance” though. They certainly lost some human potential, but these are also people who walked away from their country and their countrymen in a time of crisis, and that’s seen as a social sin. And in their eyes, losing these people is not a loss, it’s addition by subtraction
You’re probably right about this which is why Russia is a feudal kleptocratic dump.

How do you know the Russian perspective, first hand?

I guess now wouldn't be the time to say. I support secession. But only in times of unquestionable/blatant tyranny. Kinda like when the colonies bounced from the empire.
But yeah, these guys who think Russia don't pose a threat. Have just been bought by the FSB. These same guys are hardcore support Israel btw. Support Russia because facebook and fox news told me they're cool. Support Israel (I don't support Hamas btw) because something something Jesus.

I love that you think you're more "in the know" politically because you follow the 100% far left remaining panel at 538. Just so you know, Nate Silver gives Biden a 15% chance of winning per his podcast today.
I didn't know Nate had started his forecast, yet... I thought he would only post it on his subscription substack thing (which I didn't feel like subscribing to), so it's good to know he's undercutting his own business plan!
And he has Trump in the same position he had Hillary in 2016? Interesting...
But I remember him constantly saying "polls in August tell us absolutely nothing about November" in past elections... so strange that he's contradicting that, now.
Also, Nate himself is "far Left," openly Gay, and he DESPISES Trump... I'm surprised you don't disqualify his takes for those reasons alone.
And I just stumbled onto him being one of the loudest "Biden needs to resign right now because Kamala would defeat Trump" voices.
Do you agree with his take on that?

I know this wasn't directed at me, but every Russian I personally know doesn't support the war. Those living outside the country will post about it but those living in Russia still are tight lipped but all fled during the mobilization and returned later. Granted that is a very small sample and biased towards those who have lived abroad but just thought I'd share a counter point view to what Lima posted

I read a lot and I talk to people.

There’s acknowledging secession as an option and then there’s actively arguing balkanization would be good for America

But they aren't in Unit 54777 in the GRU now are they?

This just reads like Neo-confederate fan fiction.

Very interesting: Luka announced that Belarus is withdrawing its troops from the Ukrainian border, saying that tensions had been resolved. There are reports that Ukraine has also withdrawn some troops from the Belarusian border.
I really don't know what to make of this. Did one of Putin's checks bounce?

“After our specific work, the Ukrainians withdrew their armed forces and additional troops, which they [previously] transferred to our border, from the border and generally withdrew from the Belarusian-Ukrainian border zone,” the agency quoted the president as saying. “Right now we don’t have any complications with the Ukrainians, and I hope there won’t be any,” Lukashenko added.

Sounds like a tit for tat, until Ukraine pulled their troops back from the Belarusian border.

Yet again you are clueless. The Kazakh government is estimating the number of Russians avoiding the draft at 200,000,
Over 470,000 documented Russians moved there in Sept 2022

The timing is a big boost for Ukraine, considering that their forces had been spread extremely thin (that was the whole point of Russia's Kharkiv incursion), and Ukraine had been unable to rotate troops, as the new conscription law has gotten new men in uniform, but most of them are still training.
The withdrawal of 2000 Belarusian troops from the border will allow Ukraine to redeploy a similar number of troops to an active section of the front and/or to rotate out some tired unit.

Yeah, I wonder why people would be reluctant to sign up after being denied arms and aid for 7 months and suffering loses because of that?
